Key Responsibilities
As a Learning Support Specialist, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Providing effective student learning experiences by tutoring individuals and small groups, both online and face-to-face
- Delivering LSC presentations and academic workshops to engage students and promote academic success
- Remaining current on applicable instruction and tutoring pedagogy in your content area to ensure you're providing the best possible support to students
- Cultivating a welcoming, service-oriented atmosphere for students within the Learning Support Center
- Supporting the Coordinator of Library and Learning Support Services by maintaining records of services provided and facilitating the training and scheduling of student workers
- Effectively communicating with coworkers about shared tasks, both face-to-face and electronically, to ensure seamless collaboration and teamwork
- Maintaining LSC materials and ensuring the LSC environment is neatly organized to create a positive and productive learning space
- Assisting faculty and other departments by maintaining relationships with faculty to facilitate mutual communication about impactful changes to course design and tutoring support
- Collaborating with other staff departments to ensure that LSC services are advertised and delivered to the students who can benefit, especially those at risk
- Providing information about student utilization of the Learning Support Center to faculty, administration, and coordinators of special programs as needed
- Serving on college committees when appropriate and performing other duties as assigned by the Director of Developmental Education and Adult Literacy Services
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you'll need to possess the following essential qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate discipline (biology, allied health, or a related field)
- Two to three years of related teaching and/or tutoring experience, preferably in a community college setting
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Strong written, oral, and computer skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff
- Ability to establish positive working relationships with faculty and students, with a focus on creating a welcoming and inclusive learning environment
