Position SummaryThe Department of Pathology is seeking an experienced, self-motivated, collaborative individual with excellent computer and communication skills. Pathology plays a vital role in the clinical care of UNMH patients as it is the science of the cause and effects of diseases.Working in conjunction with other departmental and ancillary staff, the selected individual will help support faculty, trainees, and staff with their clinical, research, and educational needs. Job duties will consist of but are not limited to assisting the Executive Assistant to the Chair and Department Administrator with scheduling, document preparation, meeting note taking, and special projects in addition to other duties.The ideal candidate is efficient, detailed-oriented and skilled in developing and maintaining customer relationships. In collaboration with talented, hardworking, and caring coworkers to find the best solutions to challenging issues in a fast-paced environment, is expected.Office hours are Monday - Friday, 8am to 5pm with no weekends scheduled, there may be occasional overtime, or a flexible schedule may be required to meet deadlines/coordinate special events. Periodic travel to department offices (University of New Mexico Hospital and TriCore Reference Laboratories) to provide coverage, as needed, is required. - If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.
- All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the US-UNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Administrative experience in a hospital or academic medicine setting
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook
- Knowledge of scientific and/or medical terminology
- Experience composing and proofreading correspondence
- Experience scheduling and coordinating meetings, guest speakers, and conferences
- Experience making travel arrangements, preparing itineraries, and preparing reimbursements
- Knowledge of medical billing, basic bookkeeping, purchasing, and reconciliations, in particular with University of New Mexico's reconciliation program, Chrome River
- Experience transcribing documents from dictation
