- Plans and supervises activities related to the implementation, and assessment of ESOL curricula K-12 in state identified CSI and ATSI Schools.
- Visits state identified CSI and ATSI Schools for formal and informal observations of ESOL classes and content classes with multilingual learners.
- Supports in state identified CSI and ATSI Schools with managing, planning, and evaluating identified school programming for English Learners.
- Diagnoses student learning needs and uses identified needs to drive all instructional decisions in state identified CSI and ATSI Schools.
- Works directly with in state identified CSI and ATSI Schools and the Office of ESOL to develop instructional goals aligned to data.
- Analyzes Multilingual Learner data to coach and support PLCs or other planning sessions and creates multiple plans for students based upon proficiency levels and student assessment data.
- Facilitates partnerships with internal and external partners to support ESOL programming and additional Professional Development opportunities in state identified CSI and ATSI Schools.
- Collects data from multilingual learners and their families to inform programming needs in state identified CSI and ATSI Schools.
- Supports scheduling of ESOL teachers and supports co-planning and co-teaching between ESOL and content teachers; provides coaching around research-based best practices and integration of SIOP (Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol), ELL evaluation, and Thinking Maps as essential academic supports for Multilingual Learners in state identified CSI and ATSI Schools.
- Conducts annual and regular training on WiDA (World class Instructional Design & Assessment) assessments in state identified CSI and ATSI Schools.
- Provides support and training to teachers, administrative teams, and department chairs working with ELs (English Learners) in state identified CSI and ATSI Schools.
- Completes all reports required by MSDE (Maryland State Department of Education) for CSI and ATSI supports and requirements
- Collaborates with the Department of Research, Accountability, and Assessment on the collection, coding, aggregation, and analysis of data related to Multilingual learners and their achievement in state identified CSI and ATSI Schools.
- Supports professional growth of ESOL and content teachers in best meeting the needs of Multilingual Learners in state identified CSI and ATSI Schools.
- Stays current on research on best practices in the field of TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master?s degree in a related field.
- Five years of successful teaching or related experience.
- Three or more years of progressively responsible leadership/management experience related to ESOL education.
- Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate with Administrator I endorsement.
- Thorough knowledge of second language acquisition, dual language immersion and English language development.
- Knowledge of current research-based instructional practices in ESOL and other content areas.
- Technology facility and understanding of the role of technology in the ESOL classroom.
- Knowledge of and skill in the use of database, internet, spreadsheet, word processing, and related applications.
- Knowledge of and skill in data analysis especially in student achievement and gap analysis.
- Demonstrated skill in analyzing data and coaching others.
- Demonstration of excellent presentation skills.
- Demonstration of outstanding oral and written communications skills.
- Demonstration of strong leadership, communication, and human relations skills.
- Fluency in a second language preferred.
