UX Director
Our client, a global financial technology company is seeking a visionary UX Director to join its Experience Design organization. This is a fully remote 3-month assignment (40 hrs/week) with a strong possibility of extension. This leader will play a critical role in defining problem spaces, shaping strategic direction, and establishing the creative frameworks that empower product designers to deliver world-class user experiences across the companies core app. This role sits within the Core App pod, which owns foundational experiences such as the home tab, activity, profile, account, and onboarding surfaces. The work requires mastery in simplifying complex information architectures while elevating brand presence, visual craft, and interaction quality.
Responsibilities
- Define and frame core problems, opportunities, and design objectives to guide pod level execution.
- Lead the creation of design strategies, concepts, and narratives that set the vision for world-class product experiences.
- Deliver high impact visual and interaction design work that elevates quality across pods and aligns with the broader design system.
- Drive concept explorations, prototypes, creative directions, and storytelling that influence product and business partners.
- Mentor and guide designers across the pod, with 2-3 direct reports while acting primarily as a craft leader and strategic partner.
- Inspire teams through provocative thinking, visionary design explorations, and clear articulation of strategy.
- Partner with product, research, content, and design leadership to ensure alignment, momentum, and cohesive experience delivery.
- Present design strategy and work in persuasive, visually compelling ways that secure stakeholder buy in.
- Introduce bold, user motivated concepts that stretch product conventions without straying from usability or brand integrity.
- Balance brand expression with interaction excellence, shaping experiences that combine utility, clarity, and emotional resonance.
- Expand and refine design capabilities, including motion, system thinking, and advanced design tooling.
- Uphold a culture of kindness, collaboration, curiosity, and strong design point of view within the team.
Requirements
- Minimum 12 years of experience in consumer facing digital product design.
- Demonstrated ability to influence design direction through exceptional craft, strategic framing, and visionary leadership.
- A portfolio that shows meaningful shifts in product quality, brand expression, or interaction design innovation.
- Mastery across visual design, interaction design, layout, hierarchy, composition, and storytelling.
- Strong ability to communicate design strategy through presentations, prototypes, narrative storytelling, and business alignment.
- Proven success mentoring, inspiring, and elevating designers through clear guidance and hands-on craft.
- Comfortable challenging conventions with ambitious concepts while maintaining product coherence and brand fit.
- Strong understanding of information architecture, navigation systems, and simplifying complex content without losing depth.
- Passion for studying consumer behavior, cultural trends, and retail/commerce ecosystems.
- Deep sensitivity to the relationship between brand, content, visuals, and interaction systems.
- Thrives independently while serving as a creative role model for designers across pods.
