Senior Visual Communications Specialist (SMD)   RDI is seeking a Senior Visual Communications Specialist to provide enterprise‑level design leadership, creative strategy, and cross‑directorate support for the Science Mission Directorate in support of the NASA Enterprise Multimedia and Integrated Technical Services (eMITS) contract. eMITS is the Agency’s enterprise-level contract creating and delivering multimedia and technical communications through the use of the internet, digital platforms, and IT management for NASA’s Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and Office of Communications (OCOMM). From photographing rocket launches and recoveries,  to producing engaging videos, to information technology management, to using social media to share NASA’s message, eMITS integrates services for NASA IT and provides NASA’s communication to the outside world. Come join us in support of NASA’s mission to inspire the world through information and discovery.   SALARY RANGE: $153,000 - $160,000   JOB LOCATION: Remote role supporting NASA Headquarters   JOB DESCRIPTION: Provide senior-level visual communications leadership, advising the SMD Art Director, Division Directors, and front office on design strategy and brand alignment.

• Develop high-impact executive presentations and visual materials for leadership.
• Oversee creation of print and digital collateral, ensuring polished, mission‑aligned products.
• Maintain SMD-wide templates, style guides, and visual resources for consistent, accessible communications.
• Lead design support for service recognition materials, including awards and certificates.
• Apply extensive NASA institutional knowledge to guide stakeholders through established communications and branding processes.
• Support mission identifier development and approvals, ensuring policy and brand compliance.
• Plan and manage collateral needs for events and high‑visibility engagements, including inventory oversight.
• Support visual standards and content organization for SMD and Engagement Branch web and SharePoint sites.
• Mentor junior designers and communications staff through reviews and professional guidance.
• Collaborate with civil servants to improve design workflows, digital asset management, and content governance.

EDUCATION: BA and 20 years of relevant experience   Minimum Requirements

• 20+ years supporting NASA missions or scientific communications, with deep knowledge of NASA culture, processes, and stakeholders.
• Expert visual storyteller with a strong portfolio in executive communications, design systems, and complex program-level work.
• Proven experience creating branding, visual identities, and mission identifiers in multi‑stakeholder or federal environments.
• Advanced design and production skills (Adobe Creative Cloud, presentation design, print/digital workflows).
• Strong understanding of accessibility requirements (Section 508/WCAG).
• Experience collaborating with senior civil servants, technical teams, and scientists.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex concepts visually.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience shaping design standards in large, federated organizations.
• Familiarity with SMD programs, mission lifecycles, and public engagement needs.
• Experience supporting high‑visibility or executive‑level briefings.
• Training or certification in design, communications, or human‑centered design.
