About the Position

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Full-Time Coordinator of the Tutoring Center to join our Academic Affairs team at NECC. This is a remote position that offers an immediate start for the right candidate. As a key member of our Student Affairs team, the successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating tutoring activities for all NECC students, including services for students taking classes in-person and online. Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the delivery of in-person tutoring services on both the Haverhill and Lawrence campuses, specifically in areas such as Writing, ESL, and Math.
  • Collaborate with Academic Deans, Program Coordinators, faculty, and other areas of both Academic and Student Affairs to gauge the need for tutoring schedules.
  • Develop schedules and hire appropriate tutoring staff on combined funding sources.
  • Utilize and monitor budget allocations and course schedules when determining tutoring hours for Fall, Spring, and Summer.
  • Maintain a comprehensive list and schedule of all tutors and tutoring schedules for various locations on campus.
  • Maintain and update print and electronic materials for all tutoring schedules on a regular basis.
  • Work with the Administrative Assistant to coordinate print materials, schedules, and various reports.
  • Proactively engage with faculty in the recruitment of peer tutors.
  • Schedule all staff within the Tutoring Centers on two campuses.
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate AFSCME staff who work in the Tutoring Center.
  • Provide guidance and functional supervision to hourly professional MCCC tutors.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to peer tutors.
  • Determine appropriate training for peer tutors and new tutoring staff as needed.
  • Utilize Navigate software to upload individual tutor schedules for appointment scheduling.
  • Run reports from Navigate to monitor and track utilization.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for Thinking Storm on-line tutoring platform; renew contract annually, connect with the vendor when issues arise, receive and log usage reports; authorize additional hours for student usage if cap has been met.
  • Manage and approve timesheets for reporting staff.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings for reporting staff.
  • Provide projected budget and personnel needs.
  • Ensure a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students.
  • Provide data reports as requested.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in Education or a related discipline.
  • At least two (2) years of demonstrated experience coordinating academic-support services, including hiring, scheduling, training, supervising, and evaluating staff.
  • At least two (2) years coordinating support services.
  • Strong organizational skills and communication skills.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of non-traditional, multi-cultural, educationally disadvantaged, first-generation students.

Preferred Qualifications

We are particularly interested in candidates who possess the following preferred qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Content area knowledge in math, writing, science, or ESL.
  • Experience working in a community college environment.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English).
  • Experience working with and supporting a culturally diverse population.
