Florida A&M University- Payments Analyst Entry Level Opportunities

About the position This entry-level Payments Analyst role at Verizon is designed for students from Florida A&M University, providing a unique opportunity to apply academic knowledge in a practical setting. As part of the Verizon Campus Program, you will engage directly with high-impact customer issues, gaining hands-on experience from day one. This position is situated within a dynamic Finance organization, where you will contribute to helping some of the world's largest enterprises operate more efficiently. Your responsibilities will include key components of the financial statement close process, allowing you to enhance your skills and develop expertise in various financial topics. In this role, you will support retail sales and payment transactions across Verizon's physical and online stores. This includes daily balancing of payments, resolving discrepancies with store employees, and identifying issues during the balancing process. You will also be involved in subledger reconciliation of point-of-sale transactions, bank account reconciliation for customer payments, and handling payment investigations and refund requests. This position not only offers the chance to apply your degree but also to learn about the financial operations of a leading telecommunications company. As a Payments Analyst, you will be expected to participate in various projects aimed at improving processes within the payments team. You will handle customer inquiries related to payments, refunds, and credits, utilizing various billing and payment systems to resolve issues. Your role will also involve looking for opportunities to streamline processes and enhance the overall customer experience, ensuring timely refunds and approvals. This hybrid position allows for a mix of remote work and in-office days, providing flexibility while maintaining a structured work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for retail sales and payment transactions occurring in Verizon's brick & mortar and online stores. ,
  • Daily balancing of payments tendered and communication with store employees to resolve out of balance situations. ,
  • Identification and reporting of issues identified through the balancing process. ,
  • Subledger reconciliation of point-of-sale transactions flowing to Verizon billing systems and bank accounts. ,
  • Bank account reconciliation for payment deposits settling across Verizon for all customer payments. ,
  • Handle payment investigations and refund requests from customers to care centers and stores. ,
  • Conduct payment research for posting payments to both consumer customers and business accounts. ,
  • Participate in various projects, identifying and developing processes related to the payments team. ,
  • Handle customer calls relating to missing or misapplied payments, refunds, and credits. ,
  • Utilize various billing and payment systems to research and resolve customer issues. ,
  • Look for opportunities to streamline processes and improve the customer experience. ,
  • Work across the payment operations space to ensure timely refunds and approval processes.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment at Florida A&M University in a Bachelor's degree program in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, Economics, Business IT, Statistics, Math or related major with an expected completion date between December 2024 and June 2025. ,
  • Current enrollment in a Master's degree program in Accounting or Business with an expected completion date between December 2024 and June 2025. ,
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without restrictions or need for future sponsorship. ,
  • Willingness to work in Lake Mary, FL. Nice-to-haves
  • Demonstrated independent thinking and relationship management skills. ,
  • Strong analytical, communication, leadership, and presentation skills. ,
  • Knowledge of data querying and analytics, record reconciliation, and SQL.
