Key Responsibilities

As our ideal candidate, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and upkeep of our facilities, ensuring that they are safe, clean, and well-maintained. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Assuming responsibility for the comprehensive overall planning, scheduling, and performance of maintenance and repair requirements of our schools, office facilities, and grounds
  • Establishing appropriate maintenance, groundskeeping, security, and custodial requirements for each school building and installation
  • Maintaining schedules of work for each individual building, including custodial overtime
  • Participating in the hiring, assignment, and supervision of custodial, maintenance, and groundskeeping staff
  • Evaluating custodial and maintenance staff on an annual basis
  • Coordinating work activities of custodial staff in special situations, such as snow removal, graduation, and emergency closings
  • Organizing and implementing an orientation program on proper operation and maintenance of school facilities for custodial personnel
  • Establishing and supervising summer cleaning programs and schedules
  • Determining and establishing detailed specifications pertaining to supplies, materials, equipment, and local contract work
  • Recommending for purchase necessary equipment and supplies and maintaining an inventory of them
  • Ensuring proper maintenance and operation of department equipment, including motorized vehicles, tools, and machinery

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • Experience as a Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds or in a Maintenance Department
  • Ability to supervise and coordinate the activities of department staff
  • Demonstrated knowledge of architecture, school construction, engineering, plant operation, maintenance, and management, and school safety
  • A required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
  • Current residency in New Jersey, approved residency waiver, or a willingness to obtain residency within one year of employment

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • A degree in a related field, such as architecture, engineering, or facilities management
  • Experience working in an educational institution or similar environment
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to facilities management
  • Experience with budgeting and financial management
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
