About the Role

We're seeking an experienced Entry-Level Product Design Engineer to join our team at Google. As a key member of our product design team, you will be responsible for driving product designs from concept to large-scale manufacturing, focusing on balancing functionality, reliability, manufacturability, usability, and aesthetic requirements. Your expertise in mechanical design, prototyping, and manufacturing will be instrumental in bringing our innovative ideas to life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive product designs from concept to large-scale manufacturing, focusing on balancing functionality, reliability, manufacturability, usability, and aesthetic requirements.
  • Create and distribute detailed 3D CAD and 2D drawings for your designs, including GD&T, materials' selection, and manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with global manufacturing providers to drive the design forward and ensure successful production.
  • Attend meetings with providers and support manufacturing progress throughout the various stages of product development.
  • Develop and test prototypes, analyze the results of reliability testing, iteratively refine the design, and bring it to large-scale manufacturing.

Qualifications

We're looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual with a strong foundation in mechanical design, prototyping, and manufacturing. To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Designing, a related field, or equivalent functional experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with consumer hardware products, including large-scale manufacturing.
  • Experience with Siemens NX/Teamcenter.
  • Preferred qualifications include:
    • 2+ years of experience with specialized initiative giving mentorship to junior individuals from the product design team.
    • Experience planning plastic parts, metal parts, and FPC/PCBs for large-scale manufacturing.
    • Experience coordinating camera and display modules into products.
    • Experience running thermal and primary simulations using ANSYS.
    • Ability to communicate excellent work independently, highlighting key risks and design conditions to cross-functional technical teams.

Skills and Competencies

To succeed in this role, you'll need to possess a combination of technical, business, and soft skills, including:

  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, including GD&T, materials' selection, and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, including Siemens NX/Teamcenter.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on delivering high-quality results.
