Key Responsibilities

The Village of Tinley Park has an exciting opportunity for a payroll professional to join the finance team in the new position of Payroll Administrator. Under the direction of the Assistant Finance Director, this position will be responsible for coordinating, processing, and monitoring all functions necessary to ensure accurate processing of the village's payroll function. The Payroll Administrator will ensure timely and accurate processing and issuance of bi-weekly and monthly payrolls and all related processing of payroll tax and deduction deposits, and vendor payments in compliance with policy, ordinance, collective bargaining contracts, and applicable state and federal laws while maintaining master payroll records in compliance with statutory requirements. Will also be responsible for reporting monthly payroll tax, annual W2 and 1099 issuance, union reporting, IDES reporting, IMRF and police pension reporting, and other required reporting. This position will manage the payroll and village timekeeping system to meet the payroll function needs including making system updates, setting up appropriate pay and deduction codes, and establishing internal control limits within the payroll system while administering appropriate protocols to ensure payroll transactions are authorized, review data entries ensuring accuracy of transactions, and coordinate transactions with department representatives. Will also update the master payroll system tables, evaluate/test/update existing payroll system as needed to administer ordinance, policy, collective bargaining and other policy changes. In addition, this position will assist in the administration of the retiree benefit program and related retiree ordinances and collective bargaining subsidy in coordination with Human Resources, will be a key contributor in the anticipation transition to a new payroll system in the coming years, and participate on other special projects as assigned. Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field. A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of prior payroll experience is also required. Prior directly related municipal experience is highly desired. Prior payroll conversion experience is a plus! Our ideal candidate will be a payroll professional with municipal or other government experience. They will have a keen eye for detail, have a strong work ethic, ability to identify and correct issues, and a proven ability to work effectively across the organization. They will be tech savvy and excited to be on a team that will transition to a new payroll software within the next few years.
