Staff, Data Scientist | Transportation AI - GenAI
Position Summary...What you'll do...Please note that Immigration Sponsorship is NOT available for this role.Walmart Global Tech is seeking a highly skilled Full Stack Staff Data Scientist to lead the development and deployment of GenAI applications within our Transportation Applied AI team. In this role, you will play a critical part in designing, building, and scaling our intelligence system for Walmart transportation and ensuring a robust and scalable data-driven decision-making system.About Team: The Transportation Applied AI team is a highly motivated group of AI scientists and machine learning engineers dedicated to solving sophisticated and high-impact problems that power Walmart's transportation network end-to-end from vendors to stores. We leverage cutting-edge algorithms in operations research, deep reinforcement learning, economics (market design), and machine learning to tackle challenging problems like Inbound/Outbound routing, truck load optimization, freight pricing and matching, and workload dispatching.What you'll do:
- Stay up to date with GenAI and its trends and adopt new solutions and best practices
- Collaborate with other applied scientists to bring cutting-edge GenAI research into application
- Lead the model development lifecycle from ideation to deployment, ensuring high standards of model performance and robustness.
- Design and deploy production-grade machine learning models using robust software engineering principles.
- Design scalable inference systems for real-time and batch predictions.
- Optimize model performance for latency, throughput, and resource efficiency.
- Build monitoring tools and processes to ensure system reliability and performance.
- Debug and resolve issues in a live production environment, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Master's degree in computer science, engineering, machine learning, AI, or other quantitative fields with 5+ years of industry experience along with a proven track record of ownership and delivery
- Ability to develop scalable and high-performance systems for machine learning problems, leveraging languages like Python, Java, and C++.
- Strong understanding of software design patterns.
- Experience with developing GenAI-based applications
- Experience in developing scalable, distributed systems and working with microservices and event-driven architectures.
- Hands-on experience with a cloud environment like GCP or Azure, including managed services for ML and optimization workflows.
- Experience in low-latency systems, with a proven ability to optimize computationally intensive algorithms for performance and scalability.
- Experience with large-scale data pipelines in recommendation system or relevant area is a plus
