Join Our Team: Special Education Aide - Extended Resource (ER)

Job Description:

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Education Aide - Extended Resource (ER) to join our team at Fairbanks North Star Borough School District. As a Special Education Aide, you will play a vital role in supporting students with extreme emotional and behavioral problems, working closely with teachers to provide individualized attention and guidance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist teachers with tutoring and supervising students who exhibit extreme emotional and behavioral problems
• Perform auxiliary duties as assigned, including de-escalation techniques and first aid
• Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents to ensure a supportive and inclusive learning environment
• Develop and implement strategies to calm students who are upset or angry, defuse conflict situations, and safely restrain out-of-control students

Requirements:

• Meet one of the three qualifications: high school diploma or equivalent with completion of the ParaProfessional Assessment, Associate's degree or higher, or completion of two years of higher education (at least 48 semester hours)
• Successful completion of de-escalation training and obtainment of a first aid card within the first six months of employment
• Demonstrate an understanding of specialized needs and effective methods of working with ER students
• Knowledge of basic reading, math, and curricula areas appropriate for age level of students required in English
