About the Role

As an AI Tutor specializing in Japanese, your primary role will be to generate high-quality, accurately labeled data, specifically in Japanese, to improve our models. You will work closely with our technical team to produce datasets intended for model training and benchmarking. You will play a crucial role in improving our products and services by ensuring high-quality and accurately labeled data. The AI Tutor - Japanese role is a remote, full-time, temporary position expected to last approximately 6 months (with potential for extension based on project goals and business needs). AI Tutor’s Role in Advancing xAI’s Mission: As an AI Tutor, you will play an essential role in advancing xAI's mission by supporting the training and refinement of xAI’s AI models. AI Tutors teach our AI models about how people interact and react, as well as about how people approach issues and discussions. To accomplish this, AI Tutors will actively participate in gathering or providing data, such as text, voice, and video data, sometimes providing annotations, recording audio, or participating in video sessions. We seek individuals who are comfortable and eager to engage in these activities as a fundamental part of the role, ensuring a strong alignment with xAI’s goals and objectives to innovate. Scope: An AI Tutor will provide services that include labeling and annotating data in text, voice, and video formats to support AI model training. At times, this may involve recording audio or video sessions, and tutors are expected to be comfortable with these tasks as they are fundamental to the role. Such data is a job requirement to advance xAI’s mission, and AI Tutors acknowledge that all work is done for hire and owned by xAI. What you’ll do:

• Utilize proprietary software to input and label data for designated projects entirely in Japanese.
• Ensure the delivery of top-tier curated data with an emphasis on Japanese language nuances.
• Collaborate on the design of annotation tools, enhancing efficiency for Japanese-specific data handling.
• Participate in various writing projects to enhance our generative AI models, with focus on Japanese data.

Key Qualifications:

• Native proficiency in Japanese; candidates originally from Japan or those who have spent considerable time there are preferred.
• Excellent command of the Japanese language, both in spoken and written form, across informal and professional contexts.
• Strong research skills, and the ability to navigate various sources of information, databases, and online resources in Japanese are essential.
• Exceptional communication, interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills, particularly in a Japanese cultural context.
• Expert level of reading comprehension in Japanese and the ability to make informed judgments with limited data.

Compensation and Benefits

The pay for this role may range from $35/hour - $65/hr and, for full-time roles, benefits will include medical, vision, dental, STD, LTD and life insurance. This is a fully remote position. Team members are expected to work from 9:00 am - 5:30 pm PST for the first two weeks of training and 9:00am - 5:30pm in their own timezone thereafter. For those who will be working from a personal device, please note your computer must be a Chromebook, Mac with MacOS 11.0 or later, or Windows 10 or later. You must own and have reliable access to a smartphone.
