Behavioral Health and Recovery Services Adult Psychiatrist - Coastside Mental Health Clinic (Open)

About the position The County of San Mateo Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) is seeking a Board eligible or Board-certified Adult Psychiatrist to join the Coastside Mental Health Clinic located in Half Moon Bay, California. This position is designed for professionals who are passionate about working with adult clients suffering from severe mental illness and substance use disorders. The role is structured as a 0.8 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE), which translates to 32 hours of work per week. As a leader in trauma-informed community mental health services, BHRS is committed to principles of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. The psychiatrist will have the opportunity to practice state-of-the-art psychiatry without third-party intrusions, engage with a diverse client population, and participate in a collaborative team model. BHRS employs evidence-based treatment approaches and is dedicated to improving cultural competence, integrated services for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use issues, and supportive housing initiatives. The Coastside Mental Health Clinic serves a variety of cultural populations, and bilingual fluency in San Mateo County threshold languages such as Spanish, Chinese, and Tagalog is highly desirable. The position also includes participation in the award-winning Psychiatric Residency Training Program, allowing staff psychiatrists to contribute to the training of medical residents. Responsibilities

• Conduct psychiatric assessments and make diagnoses.

,

• Prescribe appropriate treatment plans and prescribe therapy, psychotherapy, rehabilitation programs, and medications as needed.

,

• Manage medications, including Medication for Addiction Treatment (MAT) as needed.

,

• Coordinate the work of consulting medical specialists.

,

• Act as a physician member of a multi-disciplinary team for clinical work or program development.

,

• Train and supervise medical students, interns, and residents.

,

• Provide clinical supervision to licensed and professional staff.

,

• Prepare reports and maintain records of activities.

,

• Conduct and direct individual and group psychotherapy.

,

• Consult and work with other medical and/or mental health professionals in the community when necessary.

,

• Confer with clients' relatives or loved ones regarding illness and treatment.

,

• Maintain electronic records of diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis according to BHRS standards and other regulatory agencies.

• Develop comprehensive case histories.

• Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Board Certification or completion of an accredited psychiatric residency program.

,

• License to practice medicine or osteopathy in the State of California.

,

• Possession of a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

,

• Knowledge of current developments, trends, and research in the field of medicine and psychiatry.

,

• Basic understanding of clinical supervisory principles and practices.

,

• Knowledge of pharmacology and psychopharmacology, including laws regarding informed consent, dosage ranges, drug incompatibilities, and side effects.

• Understanding of proper documentation of clinical services.

,

• Knowledge of general medicine and its relationship to psychiatry.

,

• Familiarity with current techniques and dynamics of individual, couple, family, and group psychotherapy.

• Understanding of chemical dependency and abuse and its relationship to psychiatry.

• Knowledge of psychiatric principles and practices.

,

• Familiarity with community mental health practice and program options.

,

• Understanding of treatment approaches and differential diagnosis of the mentally ill.

• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and medical ethics as they relate to patient care.
