Join our close-knit, early-stage distributed team, where we tackle complex technical challenges and build transformative crypto products that give people peace of mind. As a Staff Backend Engineer, you will play a critical role in shaping our backend architecture, scaling our systems, and driving high-impact engineering and product initiatives. You'll work cross-functionally to influence technical direction and mentor engineers, helping us build a world-class engineering team.

• Architect and scale backend systems to support millions of users and transactions.

• Lead and drive critical technical projects, ensuring long-term scalability, performance, and reliability.

• Design and optimize complex data processing pipelines, distributed systems, and APIs.

• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, and other teams to align technical execution with business objectives.

• Mentor and guide engineers, fostering technical excellence and best practices across the team.

• Continuously improve system performance, observability, and maintainability.

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience

• Strong CS fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, system design, and performance optimization.

• Deep knowledge of backend technologies, including databases, orchestrators, messaging systems, data pipelines, and more.

• Track record of technical leadership, leading complex projects, mentoring engineers, and setting engineering standards.

• Experience with large-scale data ingestion and processing systems.

• Drawn to an early-stage, high-growth startup environment with less stability and more ambiguity.

• Fluent in Python

• [Bonus] Experience in crypto or financial systems.

• Scale our data ingestion and computation platform to handle millions of transactions efficiently

• Build a smart trade insights platform that recommends trades across exchanges, factoring in transaction history, tax lots, fee detection, arbitrage opportunities, and slippage

• Integrate the latest country-specific tax regulations to deliver accurate, compliant tax reports for users

• Code reviews

• Continuous integration

• Multiple daily automated deployments to production

• Automated testing with >85% code coverage

• Web: HTML, Typescript, React, React Native, Styled-Components

• Mobile: React Native, Expo, GraphQL

• You don’t need to know any or all of these, but be willing to learn!

The starting salary for this position is between $210,000 - $240,000. The actual compensation offered will be based on a variety of job-related factors including relevant skills, education, and experience. This position also includes equity in CoinTracker and benefits like medical, dental, vision, 401(k), life insurance, and PTO.
