Job title: Prevention Educator Company: Family Services Job description : Title: Prevention Educator Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly Salary: $23.62 per hour Supervisor: Director of Ulster Prevention Council Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week, occasional evening and weekend hours will be required based on program needs Function: Ulster Prevention Council (UPC) is a Family Services, Inc. program housed in Kingston, NY. Our mission is to reduce and prevent substance use and substance use disorder (SUD) among youth and families in Ulster County by providing support services to ensure that strategies address local needs and preferences employing programs that have been proven to work. We work with health and human services agencies, school districts, government, law enforcement, youth organizations, and community members to reduce and prevent alcohol and substance use. The UPC prevention educator is responsible for planning, implementing, and coordinating prevention education in school and community settings, while enthusiastically supporting, practicing, and communicating the agency?s mission and statement of values. Job Requirements: Required: Minimum two years of experience in teaching, facilitation, and/or public speaking. Minimum two years? experience working with youth. Knowledge of (or willingness to learn about) substance use disorder and substance use prevention. Ability to engage youth using a strength-based and culturally competent perspective and approach. Strong planning and organizational skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work with students, staff, and faculty. Quickly adaptable to changing ideas, responsibilities, expectations, and scheduling as related to program needs. Computer literacy and comfort using Microsoft Office software. Preferred: Bachelor?s degree in education, teaching, social work, sociology, psychology, or related human services field. Understanding of, and experience working with, an evidence-based curriculum One year of experience in substance use prevention. Program monitoring and evaluation. Job Responsibilities: Provide direct delivery of evidence-based prevention curriculums to groups of youth in K-12 classrooms, in after-school programs, and in community settings throughout Ulster County. Seek and incorporate methods of instruction that enhance and enrich the learning experience. Explore and implement media resources and strategies that actively involve the participants in the lessons. Prepare and deliver materials and supplies for each program session. Advocate for implementation of evidence-based practices in school, after school, and in community settings. Network with Ulster County multi-disciplinary services and youth service providers to build working partnerships. Coordinate with the Director, Coordinator, and/or other educators for the scheduling of services delivered in multiple locations throughout the county. Maintain accurate and complete records of programs and projects (including completed participant pre/post-test evaluations and entering service delivery data online daily as required by New York State OASAS). Implement on-going evaluation of program effectiveness by assessing, analyzing, and inputting classroom and program data. Consult regularly with the principal (or his/her administrative designee) and other appropriate school personnel to help develop a uniform policy regarding student alcohol and drug use. Attend/participate in individual and group supervision as designated by the Director. Complete any training activities approved by the Director. Serve on agency committees and, where appropriate and directed, contribute to the overall work of Ulster Prevention Council Represent the program at school events, community health fairs, and other events. Participate in conferences and professional development in the health education and substance use prevention field. Other Duties as assigned. Reliable transportation and phone (travel and phone expenses are reimbursed). Travel throughout Ulster County as needed, as well as mandatory training(s) inside/outside New York State. Both standing and sitting are required for extended periods of time. Ability to receive and convey detailed and/or important instructions or ideas accurately, audibly, and quickly on the telephone and in person. Manual dexterity required and able to use wrists, hands and/or fingers in repetitive motion. Prepare and/or review documents and communications on computer, paper, and in files. Ability to work autonomously, as well as cooperatively, in collaboration with others to increase productivity, share ideas, develop unique solutions, and foster a healthy relationship with a team. #INDCP Work Environment: The work environment is in the office, schools, community, or health agencies, and after school and youth centers. The office follows New York State Covid-19 protocols as directed. The noise level is moderate.
