Job title: Adjunct Faculty - Humanities (on-campus position) Company: Henry Ford College (MI) Job description : Job Description Summary Henry Ford College presents an opportunity for an adjunct instructor in Humanities. The adjunct instructor of Humanities will be responsible primarily for providing onsite classroom instruction in Introduction to the Humanities. The instructor will be administratively responsible to the Associate Dean of the School of Liberal Arts. Core Competencies and Qualifications Master's degree or higher from a regionally-accredited institution in Humanities OR master's/MFA from one of the following qualifying fields AND a minimum of 18 graduate credits in an additional field drawn from the following disciplines: American Studies, Art, Art History, Classics, English Literature, History, Humanities, Interdisciplinary Studies, Liberal Arts, Music, Philosophy, Religion/Theology, Theater or Western/Eastern/World Civilizations. Candidates with a Ph.D. in one of these fields are encouraged to apply. Experience in teaching Humanities at the college or university level is a plus. Candidates must be able to show a capacity for curricular and teaching innovations, instructional technology, and other educational initiatives that encourage active learning. Candidates must have experience and/or training in online teaching including both online learning pedagogies and LMS management. Candidates should express themselves clearly in both oral and written forms and display classroom organizational skills. Candidates should possess the desire and ability to work cooperatively, effectively, and responsibly with community college students and staff in a multicultural setting. Candidates should also demonstrate their willingness to participate in the College's shared governance system, in collegiate, professional, and/or community activities, and their potential to contribute meaningfully to committee work. The most successful candidate will have a career that reflects the following: We are particularly interested in candidates who can teach in more than one of the following disciplines: American Studies, Art History, Classics, English Literature, Gender/Queer Studies, Foreign Language (with humanities focus), History, Humanities, Interdisciplinary Studies, Liberal Arts, Music, History, Philosophy, Religion/Theology, Theater or Western/Eastern/World Civilizations Essential Duties and Responsibilities Teach 3-9 contact hours per week via online, hybrid, or traditional models, whichever is determined by the department. Uphold the best scholarly and ethical standards of his or her discipline. Make a reasonable effort to participate in professional development activities to identify and implement effective teaching strategies that foster student learning. Make a reasonable effort to foster honest academic conduct and ensure that his or her evaluations of students reflect each student's performance. Demonstrate respect for students as individuals and foster a respectful atmosphere in the classroom or an online learning environment. Treat all students with respect and fairness without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, weight, height, marital status, familial status, protected disability, sexual orientation, political affiliation or belief or any other status protected by law. Teach course(s) in accordance with the description in the Course Master and in accordance with Department and/or standardized course policies. It is recognized that the methods, procedures, and interpretations of various instructors may differ. Be available for student consultations and provide guidance to students to promote student learning and success. Meet all scheduled classes and final examinations as scheduled. Grade and return written work to students in a timely manner. Maintain appropriate records of students' attendance, intermediate, and final grades; submit required reports to the appropriate office by the scheduled deadlines. Develop and distribute an effective course syllabus, following the guidelines of College policies and incorporating required elements of the course master; adhere to the written syllabus throughout the semester, within reasonable limits; participate in the College course evaluation process. Be informed of the Colleges support services for students and recommend their use, when advisable. Make every reasonable effort to attend scheduled department meetings. Behave appropriately in dealing with students and staff to maintain a scholarly and professional atmosphere. Notify the Associate Dean as soon as possible if unable to meet scheduled class session.
