Job title: Basketball- Youth Sports Official Company: City of Brighton Job description: Job Description Sports Official: $14.00/hr Lead Sports Official: $15.50/hr DEFINITION Keep score at adult softball games Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings and also officials games on Saturdays for a variety of youth sports. Sport Officials greet coaches, obtain team line-ups, start and end games on time, record information throughout games, and help teach youth participants while officiating. Attendance at various training days prior to the start of each sport are also required. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives supervision from the Assistant Recreation Coordinator for Youth. This position does not supervise others. EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT/ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Monitors play to oversee the safety of players and ensure the particular sport's rules are followed. Listens to concerns, answers questions and addresses coaches, players and parents in a calm, fair and professional manner. Immediately reports problems, inappropriate situations or behaviors to Site Supervisor. Receives and carries out instructions. Maintains regular and predictable attendance. Secures a substitute if unable to cover scheduled shift and notifies Sport Coordinator of schedule substitutions prior to the change. Attends referee/ scorekeeping trainings where techniques and specific rules are taught for each sport. Assures that the site is kept neat and clean throughout the day, maintains supplies/equipment and attends staff meetings. Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Multiple sports such as softball, basketball, soccer, and volleyball. Understanding of basic rules for each sport. Experience working with children ages 6 years to 12 years old. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE The candidate must be at least 15 years of age. Candidate must also pass a background check. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The candidate must have sufficient strength, agility, stamina and flexibility to move or carry up to 50 pounds, stand, crouch, kneel, bend and stoop while assisting children and adults for extended periods of time. The candidate must have adequate hearing and vision in order to discriminate between different sounds, objects, people and colors at near and far distances.
