Job title: Public Policy Director, WhatsApp Company: Meta Job description: WhatsApp Inc., a subsidiary of Meta, seeks a Public Policy Director to help develop and support WhatsApp's policy strategy and engagement throughout the world. In this role you will help shape the future of Internet and mobile policy and make an impact as part of a small, nimble, and growing team with global scope. Candidates should have strong knowledge of Internet and telecommunications policy issues, including encryption, cybersecurity, privacy, safety, integrity, economic development, and e-commerce. They should also have excellent analytical skills. The person will work closely with the WhatsApp Public Policy and Communications teams globally, as well as with the Meta Public Policy team and other relevant groups at WhatsApp and at Meta. As a Public Policy Director for WhatsApp, you will shape various product and issue agendas related to private messaging with external stakeholders in government, civil society, and elsewhere. In addition, you will help advise our internal teams on the public policy challenges and opportunities of WhatsApp's products, working with a cross-functional global team. The role requires significant experience either working with or in government, politics or a regulatory agency as well as an ability to grasp complex technical and policy issues. In this role, you will also manage strategic outreach and policy campaigns to advance the values and interests of WhatsApp. You will advocate for WhatsApp on the big public policy issues of the day and often play a part in high-profile debates. Public Policy Director, WhatsApp Responsibilities Develop and execute strategies, stakeholder outreach, and policy campaigns to advance WhatsApp's global policy priorities, address policy challenges, and clear a path for WhatsApp's continued innovation, exploration and growth Develop and refine WhatsApp's global narratives and positions around key issues, including encryption, privacy, safety/integrity, cybersecurity, economic development, and e-commerce Work in conjunction with WhatsApp global policy team to build coalitions, develop and manage innovative policy campaigns, and engage with policymakers, trade associations, industry partners, key opinion formers, non-profit groups and others to communicate and advance WhatsApp's policy priorities Identify, monitor, and analyze emerging policy issues and challenges affecting WhatsApp and private messaging in key international markets as well as at the US federal/state levels Drive the production of materials that enable the global policy team to effectively communicate WhatsApp's positions and narratives in briefing papers, consultation responses, internal and external meetings, and other settings Work cross-functionally with Product, Legal, Communications, Trust and Safety, Partnerships, and regional/functional Policy teams, to build and drive policies and influence product and operational decisions that support the company's goals Advise WhatsApp and Meta executives on policy issues, challenges, and strategies Minimum Qualifications Bachelor degree in policy, international affairs, or other relevant fields 12+ years of relevant work experience in public policy, government, or legal positions Experience analyzing complex and/or new/emerging policy issues Experience managing policy campaigns and strategic outreach with diverse stakeholders Experience advising teams and senior executives on policy matters Experience producing high quality briefs and other materials for advocacy for internal and external communications Preferred Qualifications Masters or JD Experience in technology policy issues, including encryption, privacy, safety/integrity, cybersecurity, economic development, and e-commerce Government relations or experience in government working on policy issues Experience in product counseling Experience in people management Experience in or advising on public affairs and media strategies Locations About Meta Meta builds technologies that help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses.
