The Special Education Teacher will provide quality services to students in grades nine (9) through twelve (12) who qualify for specific academic services. Our search and selection committee is seeking a qualified individual who will initiate, through a commitment to team participation, planning and implementation of student programs which include special instruction, assessments, consultation to general education staff and monitoring for compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations. The special education teacher's priority responsibilities will include: work in partnership with parents/guardians, students, regular education teachers, academic and residential counselors, residential and tutorial settings staff members and the administration in accordance with the Mt. Edgecumbe High School mission and vision goals in order to promote student achievement. Highly Qualified credentials as determined by the State of Alaska Department of Education in hand are required.Mt. Edgecumbe High School is a public boarding school with 430 students from over 100 communities throughout Alaska. Most come from communities with high schools enrolling fewer than 50 students; approximately 80% are Alaska Native.
