Following the USDA nutritional guidelines. Utilizing mostly USDA Commodity and donated ingredients. Maintain a clean, organized kitchen and pantry following county guidelines.EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Certified cook preferred
- Preferred 2 years of experience in institutional food service experience including: menu planning, food production, sanitation, and management experience.
- Detail oriented and attention to detail
- Self-starter; Independent worker
- Neat and clean personal appearance
- Serve Safe certification
- Knowledge and experience cooking in quantity
- Must work as a “team player”
- Ability to pass a background check
- Coordinate menus for the various programs of The Salvation Army, keeping them in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
- Oversee the cleaning of the kitchen to be sure that Public Health Department regulations are followed
- Plan, prepare and serve breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday
- Be available to assist in meeting food needs for Emergency Disaster Services (EDS)
- Work with volunteers
- Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen, pantry, walk-in refrigerator and freezers, organizing donations of food in appropriate ways, tracking “use-by” dates
- Maintain records for statistical reporting
- Keep accurate inventory of USDA Commodity Items
- Maintain supply inventory and work with Corps Officer to order replacement supplies as necessary
- Rotate breads, and/or donated fruits and vegetables for clients’ home use
- It is The Salvation Army’s desire to keep employees safe. It is very important to follow all safety protocols in the workplace. To help ensure safety in the kitchen, all Kitchen workers are required to wear shoes that meet the following criteria: Must wear a shoes with Closed Toes and Slip Resistant Soles
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis
- Ability to grasp, push, pull objects and reach overhead
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to understand written information
- Ability to talk and communicate with clients
- Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions.
- Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions.
- Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months’ service time.
