Description: Mather Economics is seeking early-career individuals or recent graduates with strong technical skills for a remote position, analyzing web traffic data from news publishers. Candidates should have experience in data analytics through work experience and/or coursework, fellowships, or internships. Individuals should be detail-oriented, organized, and able to communicate technical concepts effectively. Candidates should have a four-year degree from an accredited college or university with a degree in computer science, economics, mathematics, or a related field. Degrees should be accompanied by relevant internship or work experience. Technical skills should include SQL, Python, or PySpark. We seek individuals who will succeed in a remote workplace, desire to continually learn and improve technical skills, and show a desire to grow into future positions with the company. Responsibilities include:

  • Run, modify, and automate recurring processes using SQL, Python, and the Oozie workflow scheduling system.
  • Write queries to pull and manipulate data for client-requested reports.
  • Analyze and visualize complex datasets to communicate insights to clients and other teams.
  • Communicate with the consulting team on operational tasks and timelines.
  • Troubleshoot data or process issues.
  • Monitor and update health reporting to maintain data quality and pipeline success.
  • Learn and manage database structures.
  • Maintain and improve the automation pipeline.
  • Create Documentation f existing and newly developed processes.

Requirements: Minimum Qualifications for the position:

  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree.
  • Practical experience with SQL and Python or related tools.
  • Enjoy being in the weeds with data and problem solving
  • Ability to write efficient and maintainable code
  • Working knowledge of Excel or other analytics tools for ad-hoc analysis and data visualization.
  • Intellectually curious and eager to expand technical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Detail-oriented, with high standards for the quality of their work.
  • Ability to work autonomously and judge when to escalate issues or ask for assistance.

Preferred Qualifications for the position:

  • Experience with the following languages and systems: Tableau, Hadoop/Hive, Spark/PySpark, JavaScript, Git/GitHub, Google Analytics.
  • Domain knowledge or professional experience in the following areas:

o Web traffic analytics (especially snowplow-based trackers) o Subscription management o Economic theory and modeling o News publishing or reporting o Content management systems (CMS) At Mather Economics, we value our employees and are committed to their well-being.
