Virtual Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher - New Mexico

Job Title: Virtual Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Location: Remote (New Mexico-based) Employment Type: Full-Time or Part-Time Contract Position Overview We are seeking a dedicated and qualified Virtual Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to provide specialized instruction to K–12 students in New Mexico. This remote position offers the flexibility of working from home while making a meaningful impact on students' educational experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Instruction & Curriculum Delivery: Develop and implement individualized lesson plans that align with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), focusing on language, literacy, and communication skills.
  • IEP Development & Collaboration: Actively participate in IEP meetings, collaborating with parents, general education teachers, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive support for students.
  • Assessment & Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess student performance, adjust instructional strategies as needed, and maintain accurate records of student progress.
  • Assistive Technology Integration: Utilize appropriate assistive technologies to enhance the learning experience for students with hearing impairments.
  • Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in deaf education and remote teaching methodologies.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Certification: Valid New Mexico Teaching License with endorsement in Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience working with deaf or hard of hearing students, preferably in a virtual setting.
  • Skills:
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Familiarity with virtual teaching platforms and assistive technologies.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to adapt instructional materials to meet diverse student needs.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience in developing and implementing IEPs.
  • Knowledge of current instructional methodologies for deaf and hard of hearing students.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote environment.
