About the position The Brush & Bulk Item - Refuse Collector position involves performing heavy manual work related to the collection of refuse materials and the removal of brush and bulky items from designated locations in Abilene, Texas. The role requires operating equipment for loading and dumping refuse, as well as ensuring safe and efficient collection practices according to established policies and procedures. Responsibilities Operate equipment mechanism for loading, compressing, and dumping refuse material. , Direct the driver/operator in the movement of refuse trucks in alleys and street pick-up locations. , Cut limbs, brush, and related growths that interfere with the safe movement of vehicles in alleys. , Pick up and empty refuse containers into vehicles and return them to original locations. , Collect loose debris and brush piles as required and load them into vehicles. , Identify defective containers. , Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned. Requirements Experience in heavy manual work is required. , A high school diploma or GED is required. , A valid Texas driver's license is preferred, or the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days. Nice-to-haves Bloodborne Pathogens training and HazCom training are required within sixty (60) days of employment.
