Staff Data Engineer (Remote - Austin, or U.S.)

Our Data Team is expanding, & we’re seeking a Staff Data Engineer to help support The Zebra’s growing needs. In this role, you will help collect, connect, centralize, and curate our data. You will immediately contribute to our goal of using our rich datasets to make more thoughtful business decisions. You should love releasing well-tested code multiple times a day, be ready to take ownership, and be thrilled about having broad responsibilities within a fast-growing company. Reporting directly to the Analytics Engineering Manager, you will work closely with your peers, leadership, and analysts within teams like Product, Finance, and Marketing. Location: While we are open to remote work across the contingent US, we are still in the process of establishing our company to support work in all states! We’ve recently made the shift from an in-office organization to a hybrid model and love the flexibility it allows our employees. We are set up to support employees who want to be fully remote, in-office only, and a mix of the two. Please note - we will not be supporting work based out of the following states: CA, MA, NY, NJ. What You'll Do: • Design and implement reliable, fast, and scalable data pipelines • Mentor other engineers and analysts on data processing, data access and manipulation techniques • Assist and guide the company in finding data-driven solutions to business problems • Guide the architectural decisions for our organization including infrastructure, tech stack, and tooling. What We're Looking For: As we evaluate candidates across all roles, we look for folks who have a strong sense of ownership, great communication and collaboration skills, and a dedication to continuous improvement. • 7+ years of any professional programming experience (Python, Java, Ruby, C++, C#, Go, Scala, etc) • Expert experience with scalable data warehouses (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, etc) • Exceptional experience with relational and NoSQL databases • Expertise with event streams and stream processing • Expertise with microservice architecture • Strong with the Linux/Unix command line and shell scripting Experience that will Impress the Heck Out of Us: • 5+ years experience building large-scale, distributed, high-volume system • Significant experience with AWS • Solid understanding of DBT, Looker, Prefect, Benefits & Perks: Inclusive and healthy environments are crafted intentionally.
