About the Role

Our client, a dynamic pharmaceutical company renowned for its innovative drug development pipeline, is seeking an experienced Senior Process Chemist to join their expanding team in Portland, Oregon . This role is pivotal in optimizing and scaling up chemical synthesis routes for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). The Senior Process Chemist will be responsible for developing safe, efficient, and cost-effective manufacturing processes, ensuring seamless technology transfer from laboratory to pilot plant and commercial production. We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual with a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry, process development, and scale-up experience. Key Responsibilities

Develop and optimize synthetic routes for APIs, focusing on safety, efficiency, yield, purity, and cost-effectiveness. Execute laboratory experiments to understand reaction mechanisms, identify critical process parameters, and establish control strategies. Conduct process hazard assessments and implement appropriate safety measures for scale-up operations. Lead technology transfer activities to pilot plant and manufacturing sites, providing technical support and training. Troubleshoot process issues and implement corrective actions during development and manufacturing. Characterize intermediates and final products using analytical techniques such as NMR, HPLC, GC, MS, and XRPD. Write detailed process development reports, batch records, and regulatory documentation. Collaborate effectively with R&D chemists, analytical scientists, engineers, and manufacturing personnel. Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in pharmaceutical process chemistry. Manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks to meet project timelines.

Requirements

Ph.D. or M.S. in Organic Chemistry, Process Chemistry, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical process chemistry, including hands-on scale-up experience. Strong knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry, reaction mechanisms, and stereochemistry. Proven ability to develop robust and scalable chemical processes. Experience with process safety evaluations and implementation of control strategies. Proficiency in analytical techniques for chemical characterization. Excellent problem-solving skills and a systematic approach to process development. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience in technical report writing. Ability to work independently and manage projects effectively. Familiarity with cGMP regulations and guidelines.
