Design first, then build: choose the simplest architecture that meets the need with clear trade-offs. Own outcomes end-to-end: architecture → build → launch → operate. What We're Looking For
We are hiring a technical leader who combines strong architecture and engineering expertise with exceptional communication and client-facing skills. This individual will own the technical success of assigned engagements, leading discovery, solution design, engineering teams, and client relationships from concept through production. Success in this role requires balancing technical excellence, team leadership, and stakeholder management while consistently delivering measurable business outcomes. This role reports directly to our Chief Strategy Officer, Steven Feld.
Key Responsibilities
Drive discovery, translate business goals into system designs, and create architecture diagrams, sequence flows, and data models. Architect and develop full stack web applications, integrations, and backend systems. Partner closely with Project Managers to ensure project plans, priorities, and client expectations remain aligned with technical realities and delivery commitments. Serve as the primary technical leader for assigned client engagements, building trust with stakeholders and guiding technical decision-making throughout the project lifecycle. Lead client discovery sessions, requirements workshops, architecture reviews, and solution discussions. Communicate technical concepts, trade-offs, risks, and recommendations in clear business terms. Proactively manage client expectations, identify risks early, and drive alignment between business objectives and technical execution. Drive code reviews, architecture decisions, and sprint planning. Continuously improve our development processes, tooling, and team culture. Lead and mentor onshore and offshore developers, ensuring delivery quality, accountability, technical excellence, and team performance. Assign work, remove blockers, monitor progress, and maintain alignment with project priorities and delivery commitments. Establish and enforce engineering standards, development processes, and quality expectations. Delivery Ownership Own the technical success of assigned client engagements from discovery through production launch, including solution design, team execution, client communication, delivery quality, and business outcomes. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and at the quality standards expected by Propela and our clients. Anticipate delivery risks and take proactive action to address technical, team, or client challenges before they impact outcomes. Tech Stack We don't expect expertise in every tool listed, but anything marked with an asterisk is required for this role. Familiarity with the rest is strongly preferred. Backend: Python*, Node.js*, Java, .NET Frontend: React*, Angular, TypeScript, Tailwind Databases: SQL Server*, MySQL*, PostgreSQL, MongoDB DevOps: AWS*, Azure, Docker, GitHub Actions CRM/ERP Integrations: Salesforce, QuickBooks BI Tools: Power BI You Might Be a Great Fit If You: Are energized by complex problem solving and rapid delivery. Have successfully led both engineering teams and client relationships on complex software delivery projects. Are comfortable facilitating executive-level client conversations and driving difficult technical or business decisions. Hold teams accountable while creating an environment where developers can do their best work. View communication, leadership, and execution as equally important as technical expertise. Have led architecture/delivery from concept → MVP → production, with clear trade-offs explained to non-technical stakeholders. Have 7+ years of experience in full stack software development. Have 3+ years leading developer teams and managing technical delivery. Value mentorship and enjoy helping developers grow. Are comfortable wearing many hats in a fast-moving startup environment.
