Available Title(s): 1138-YN_ADMINPRO - Coordinator Business Title: Hearing Officer Employee Type: Admin. Professional Position Details: Summary of Duties: This position presides over full adjudicative hearings in compliance with applicable legal, regulatory, and university requirements while maintaining a fair, equitable, student-centered, and educational approach. Full adjudicate hearings are most commonly used to resolve reports of gender based violence, hazing, harm to others, and repeated substance use concerns. Responsibilities include managing all hearing processes from start to finish including but not limited to communicating directly with attorneys, pre-hearing and hearing processes, issuing required notices and decisions, ruling on procedural and evidentiary matters, and evaluating testimony and evidence. The role produces well-reasoned written decisions and assigns appropriate sanctions—up to and including permanent dismissal—balancing accountability, student learning, and community safety. The position also ensures accurate recordkeeping, supports continuous improvement of hearing practices, contributes to training and policy development, and participates in university service with a high degree of independence and professionalism. Required Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to area of specialization and three (3) years of experience directly related to the specialty area. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. Preferred Qualifications: Juris Doctor, experience working in legal settings. Experience evaluating testimonial and documentary evidence. Experience working with college students. Experience working in an educational environment. Preference will be given to candidates who are local to the great Pullman area, however, fully remote work is possible. Comprehensive understanding of federal and state compliance issues, including but not limited to Title IX and the STOP Campus Hazing Act. Comprehensive understanding of the WA Administrative Procedures Act. Knowledge of current higher education regulations that impact the administration of student conduct processes and student due process rights. Familiarity in creating and implementing educational sanctions. This position is overtime eligible. This part-time position is located on the WSU Pullman campus. The position may be eligible for hybrid or remote work. Monthly Part-Time Salary $4,166.67 to $5,416.67 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position at the half-time rate. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
