As a Motor Vehicle Customer Service Representative 1 at arenaflex, you will be the front‑line ambassador for our agency. You’ll examine documentation, verify information, and issue the correct credentials while providing clear, courteous explanations of policies, statutes, and regulations. This role is perfect for individuals who excel in fast‑paced settings, enjoy multitasking, and take pride in delivering accurate, friendly service to the public.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist customers in the public service lobby, delivering prompt, courteous service.
  • Review driver’s license, vehicle title, registration, and other motor‑vehicle documents for completeness and validity.
  • Enter data accurately into multiple internal databases and generate official documents such as licenses, permits, and registration certificates.
  • Explain complex policies, statutes, and regulations to a diverse clientele, ensuring they understand requirements and next steps.
  • Process cash, check, credit‑card, and electronic payments; issue receipts and provide correct change.
  • Maintain a clean, organized workstation and adhere to security and privacy standards for sensitive personal information.
  • Rotate weekly between lobby customer service and information‑station duties, adapting quickly to changing workflow demands.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, suggest efficiencies, and assist in minor problem‑solving without direct supervision.
  • Collaborate with team members, supervisors, and other arenaflex departments to resolve escalated issues.
  • Participate in ongoing training sessions, workshops, and community outreach initiatives to stay current on regulatory changes.

Essential Qualifications

  • Six (6) months of experience handling cash and interacting directly with customers (e.g., retail cashier, bank teller, food‑service server).
  • Or six (6) months of office‑clerical experience providing information to the public, including data entry and retrieval using computer systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver professional, friendly customer service across a wide range of situations and demographics.
  • Proficiency with keyboarding and accurate data entry; comfortable navigating multiple software platforms simultaneously.
  • Strong cash‑handling skills with the ability to process various payment types accurately.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills; capable of explaining policies clearly in a noisy, open‑concept environment.
  • Ability to multitask—reviewing documents, entering data, and conversing with customers without sacrificing accuracy.
  • Self‑directed work ethic; capable of identifying efficiencies, making decisions, and solving minor problems independently.
  • Residency in Alaska (must meet Alaska residency requirements).

Preferred Qualifications & Education

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (any field) – may substitute for required experience at a ratio of three semester hours (or four quarter hours) per month of experience.
  • Prior experience in motor‑vehicle licensing, titling, or related government services.
  • Familiarity with Alaska driver‑license laws and voter‑registration statutes.
  • Experience using the Alaska License and Vehicle Information Network (ALVIN) or similar state‑wide data systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Customer Service Excellence: Empathy, patience, and the ability to de‑escalate challenging situations.
  • Analytical Thinking: Spotting inconsistencies in documentation and applying regulatory knowledge to resolve them.
  • Communication: Clear, concise verbal explanations and professional written correspondence (email, internal notes).
  • Technical Proficiency: Comfortable with Windows‑based applications, database entry, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Organizational Skills: Managing multiple tasks, prioritizing workload, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Integrity & Ethics: Upholding privacy standards and adhering to all legal and policy requirements.
