Joining arenaflex means becoming part of a purpose‑driven organization that is dedicated to creating healthier lives through innovative data science.
Position Overview
The Remote Real‑World Evidence (RWE) Data Scientist will be a pivotal member of arenaflex’s Scientific Affairs team, responsible for turning complex, multi‑source health data into actionable insights that shape clinical trial strategies and inform biopharma partners. Working from anywhere in the United States, you will apply advanced analytics, statistical modeling, and data engineering techniques to generate high‑impact evidence that supports drug development, safety monitoring, and health‑economics assessments.
Key Responsibilities
- Extract, clean, and harmonize raw data sets from internal data warehouses, electronic health records (EHR), claims databases, and external real‑world data (RWD) sources to create standardized, analysis‑ready patient cohorts.
- Design and execute robust statistical analyses—including generalized linear models, survival analysis, machine learning classification, clustering, and time‑series forecasting—to answer critical business questions around unmet medical needs, treatment effectiveness, and cost‑utility.
- Partner closely with cross‑functional stakeholders—including clinical operations, epidemiology, health economics, and external biopharma collaborators—to translate analytical findings into strategic recommendations.
- Develop and maintain a unified data lake architecture that supports scalable analytics, reproducibility, and secure data sharing across the organization.
- Build interactive dashboards, visual reports, and executive‑level presentations using Tableau, Power BI, or similar BI tools to communicate insights to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Lead the design and implementation of real‑world evidence studies, including protocol development, data source selection, and statistical analysis plans.
- Conduct due‑diligence assessments of new RWD vendors, evaluating data quality, provenance, and regulatory compliance to inform partnership decisions.
- Ensure all deliverables meet the highest standards of scientific rigor, reproducibility, and regulatory compliance (e.g., GCP, ISO, CFR).
- Mentor junior data scientists and analysts, fostering a culture of continuous learning and methodological excellence.
Essential Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Statistics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Epidemiology, or related field).
- Experience: Minimum of four years of professional experience in quantitative or computational roles, with a proven track record of delivering statistical analyses in healthcare or life‑science settings.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in at least two of the following programming languages or environments: R, Python, SQL.
- Statistical Expertise: Hands‑on experience designing and executing reproducible analyses for observational studies, including familiarity with GLMs, classification & discrimination methods, decision trees, unsupervised learning, time‑series analysis, and survival analysis.
- Data Management: Demonstrated ability to work with large, heterogeneous data sets from multiple sources, ensuring data integrity, privacy, and compliance with HIPAA and other regulations.
- BI Tools: Experience with Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, Spotfire, or comparable business intelligence platforms for data visualization and dashboard creation.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex analytical concepts into clear, actionable insights for diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. or advanced degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
- Experience working with electronic medical records (EMR), health‑IT systems, disease registries, and claims databases.
- Familiarity with medical coding standards and ontologies such as ICD‑9/10, SNOMED CT, and Read Codes.
- Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and regulatory frameworks governing real‑world evidence generation (e.g., ISO 14155, FDA RWE guidance).
- Hands‑on experience with Bayesian modeling, sequential analysis, and experimental design for clinical research.
- Exposure to cloud‑based data platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and big‑data processing tools (Spark, Hadoop, Snowflake).
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross‑functional projects and influence decision‑making at senior leadership levels.
Core Skills & Competencies
- Analytical Rigor: Ability to apply rigorous statistical methodology while maintaining flexibility to adapt to evolving data landscapes.
- Problem‑Solving Mindset: Proactive approach to identifying knowledge gaps and designing innovative analytical solutions.
- Collaboration: Strong teamwork orientation, comfortable partnering with clinicians, epidemiologists, health economists, and external partners.
