About the Role

As the Senior Database Administrator II at arenaflex, you will serve as a critical member of our database management team, taking ownership of organizing and implementing actual changes to computer databases. Your responsibilities will span coding, testing, implementing, and maintaining database systems that support our enterprise applications and business operations. You will work across development, staging, and production environments, ensuring that our databases operate at peak performance, maintain high availability, and adhere to the highest standards of security and reliability.

This position is ideal for a database professional with at least five years of experience in enterprise, multi-site SQL Server environments who is ready to take the next step in their career. You will collaborate closely with application developers, system administrators, and business stakeholders to deliver robust database solutions, troubleshoot complex issues, and drive continuous improvement across our data platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Database Issue Resolution: Investigate and resolve day-to-day database and application issues, providing timely and effective solutions that minimize business disruption and maintain service level agreements.
  • Documentation and Standards: Play a vital role in documenting existing systems, configurations, and solutions, ensuring knowledge is captured and accessible across the team.
  • Standards and Procedures: Assist in the design, implementation, and support of standards and procedures for monitoring, scope management, maintenance, backups, and disaster recovery operations.
  • Multi-Environment Support: Support multiple databases across development, staging, and production environments in both local and remote data center locations.
  • High Availability Configuration: Configure and maintain high-availability solutions for SQL Server, including clustering, replication, and mirroring technologies.
  • Application Team Support: Partner with application development teams to resolve database-related issues, provide guidance on data access patterns, and ensure optimal database design.
  • Software Installation and Management: Install server-based application software in collaboration with system administrators, and manage new software installations, updates, and patches.
  • Best Practices Development: Create and implement best practices for stored procedures, triggers, packages, tables, and views, ensuring consistency and quality across all database objects.
  • Performance Optimization: Optimize database performance by analyzing and tuning stored procedures, creating indexes and views, and applying other tuning techniques as needed.
  • ETL Process Design: Design and maintain enterprise ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes using various tools, including SSIS, .NET scripting, and T-SQL.
  • Maintenance and Reporting: Execute database maintenance procedures and generate system reports to monitor health, performance, and capacity.
  • Security Implementation: Create and enforce security models, manage database and application accounts, and conduct security audits to protect sensitive data.
  • Development Collaboration: Participate in application development cycles to facilitate sound database design and efficient access patterns.
  • Backup and Recovery Planning: Plan, prepare, and test backup and recovery procedures for all production databases, ensuring business continuity in the event of failures.
  • Capacity Planning: Monitor databases for efficiency, perform periodic upgrades during scheduled downtime, and calculate volumetric projections to estimate future database sizes and plan for growth.
  • Cross-Team Communication: Communicate plans, changes, and technical information effectively to system administrators and other stakeholders.
  • System Security and Auditing: Ensure the security of database systems and all business and logical applications connected to them, including patching, auditing, and access control.
  • Performance Monitoring and Load Testing: Monitor production systems for performance and health, and participate in load testing activities to validate system capacity and stability.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other responsibilities as assigned to support team and organizational objectives.

Essential Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful in this role, candidates must possess a strong foundation in client-server technology and demonstrate working knowledge of SQL Server in enterprise contexts. Specifically, we are looking for professionals who meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is required.
  • Professional Experience: A minimum of five years of experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator in enterprise, multi-site SQL Server environments.
  • SQL Server Expertise: Solid working knowledge of SQL Server administration, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • SSIS and T-SQL Proficiency: Intermediate to advanced skills with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and T-SQL programming.
  • Communication Skills: Effective written and oral communication skills, as well as strong organizational and interpersonal abilities.
  • Customer Service Orientation: A demonstrated commitment to providing the highest level of customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong math and algebra skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve applications that interact with hosted databases.
  • Team Collaboration: The ability to communicate directly and professionally with both clients and vendors.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications will distinguish exceptional candidates and accelerate their success at arenaflex:

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure technologies and migrating databases into cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS).
  • Experience with .NET scripting (C# or VB.NET) and PowerShell automation.
  • Background in the automotive industry or experience with CRM systems.

Compensation and Benefits

arenaflex offers a competitive compensation package designed to attract and retain top talent. The salary range for this position is $35 to $40 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition to base compensation, full-time employees at arenaflex enjoy a comprehensive benefits package that may include health, dental, and vision insurance; retirement savings plans; paid time off and holidays; professional development allowances; and performance-based bonuses. Work Schedule

This is a full-time position with a standard work schedule of eight hours per day. Occasional after-hours work may be required to perform database maintenance, upgrades, or respond to critical incidents.
