Position Summary:
The Phyllis and Harvey Sandler School of Social Work at Florida Atlantic University is seeking a full-time Instructor who will serve as the Field Coordinator of our BSW and MSW programs with a start date of August 2024. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to preparing social work professionals, committed to generalist and clinical practice, and improving the lives of vulnerable and at-risk populations. Housed within the College of Social Work and Criminal Justice at FAU, the Sandler School of Social Work is committed to creating an accessible and supportive environment of academic excellence. Our school has approximately 600 Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) students (the largest BSW program in State of Florida ) and over 330 Master of Social Work (MSW) students. Our Doctor of Social Work program opened in August 2016 and is currently undergoing a curriculum redesign to relaunch in Fall 2024. We continue to see significant growth in academic programs and certificates, as well as research and community-engaging centers (e.g., Child Welfare Institute, Healthy Aging Academy, Office of Professional Development, Robin Rubin Center for Happiness and Life Enhancement). Applicants should be prepared to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels.
The selected applicant will be primarily assigned to the Office of Field Education, as an instructor, to manage the administrative tasks related to field education and teach field seminars. The Field Coordinator position will be a 12-month position. The candidate will teach field integrative seminars and other field-related practice courses; recruit field agencies for the field internship program; match students with field agencies; make liaison placements; and assist in providing orientation, training, and supervision for students, field instructors, and faculty. In addition to administrative responsibilities in the Field Education Program and teaching, the successful candidate will engage in service to the School, University, and profession. Courses may be taught in person or online and may be assigned on any of the FAU campuses (e.g. Boca or Davie).
Essential Functions:
- Supports student success through communication and on-time placement and matching with community partner agencies
- Develops and implements innovative strategies for student placement and monitoring
- Conducts regular site visits (virtual and in-person) at local agencies where students are placed and potentially assess and monitor appropriateness of placement
- Researches and identifies new potential placement opportunities for social work students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Maintains and monitors an updated database of students and agencies in the Office of Field Education
- Ensures compliance with all Council of Social Work Education (CSWE) Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS) regarding field education
- Collaborates closely with the FAU legal office to develop placement contracts that comply with the CSWE Educational Policies and requirements for the Sandler School of Social Work, and FAU
- Attends and chairs Student Success Conferences to ensure students are provided direction and support prior to and during field internships
- Meets with students to provide information and direction in decision making in preparation for field
- Schedules and manages Field Instructor Supervisory Training twice yearly to community agency field instructors
- Prepares yearly scheduling for all field functions
- MSW from an accredited school of social work
- At least two years post MSW experience
- Experience in field education and/or teaching in higher education, providing trainings, and/or conducting presentations
- Experience in administration and/or management of programs
- LCSW in the state of Florida
