Job title: Asian Culture Club Company: Lake County Schools Job description: Seeking a dynamic and creative sponsor for the HPHS Asian Culture Club (ACC) Because the club has been smaller and in flux the last couple years (esp. due to the Pandemic) it allows a lot of flexibility for the new sponsor. The intent of the Asian Culture Club is to celebrate the many traditions and current culture from all Asian countries, especially China, Japan and Korea. The students are especially interested in Japanese and Korean current culture, esp. given the popularity of Anime and K-Pop. This access to popular culture often opens the club to a more diverse group of students, including students with a variety of learning needs. This is one of the most impressive parts of ACC: the diversity of the members sharing a common interest in various Asian Cultures. The Club remains open to all students throughout the school year. The sponsor models open mindedness, respect and desire to learn. Sponsor responsibilities include organizing consistent member meetings, out-of-school field trips, and teaching students various leadership skills. Traditionally, to encourage variety, meeting topics alternated between current Asian cultures like watching Anime together and more active "learning" experiences- like learning words or characters in various languages and connecting it to a traditional art project. Depending on the group interests, discussions of current social issues involving Asian American and Pacific Islander communities are also meeting topics. Ideally, the sponsor encourages creativity and involvement from members as well as introduces Field Trips, like favorites: Joong Boo Korean market (Glenview) and Super H mart (Niles), Mitsuwa Japanese Market in Arlington Heights, and Chicago's Chinatown, are esp. fun to connect the members and keep energy high.
