Job description: POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Youth and Family Program Director, the Tutor will ensure that the YMCA meets the needs of its members in the safest and most enjoyable atmosphere. They are responsible for planning and executing instructional plans for all assigned clients. The Tutor communicates and creates collaborative relationships with students, parents/guardians and other significant Tutors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Create a welcoming environment by greeting children by name.
- Reach out to parent/guardian and schedule tutor sessions according to student's availability.
- Lead one on one or small group tutoring sessions in a safe, enjoyable and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement.
- Plan and lead tutoring sessions according to the subject matter presented by the student(s).
- Administer professional and effective program-specific skills according to course description and/or curriculum.
- Interact, initiate, and encourage the student(s) during tutoring sessions to help them develop the study skills necessary for academic success, a high level of motivation in academic areas, and positive attitudes toward learning and studying.
- Identify students experiencing difficulties and provide encouragement and proper alternatives.
- Acknowledge student efforts, accomplishments, and progress.
- Document, track, and maintain daily progress and academic records of assigned student(s). Initiate ongoing communication with parent/guardian concerning student's progress and behavior.
- Respond promptly and courteously to all member inquiries/needs.
- Store all equipment neatly and appropriately.
- Set up and monitor class equipment, ensuring equipment remains in working condition. Report all equipment repair needs to supervisor immediately.
- Maintain close supervision of children at all times. At no time will a child be left unsupervised.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
- Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management.
- Perform other job-related duties as requested and necessary.
- Minimum of 18 years of age.
- Minimum of three-years of experience working to help students achieve academic goals.
- Knowledge in area that is being taught.
- Ability to work and interact with a diverse group of people.
- Ability to listen and speak to communicate with children and their parents.
- All required online training must be completed prior to hire.
- Criminal record clearance.
- Ability to lift minimum of 25 pounds.
- Must have the physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accomodations.
