GENERAL SUMMARY
TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded program that serves students overcoming obstacles to education, including limited income, first generation to college, and disability. The primary objective of this position is to increase the persistence, graduation and transfer of SSS participants. The Student Success Specialist (Academic Coordinator) provides intentional and intrusive advising to a cohort of SSS participants while coordinating academic tutoring, support, and enrichment activities.

Description of Job
PRIMARY DUTIES
Provides intentional and intrusive advising service for TRIO SSS participants, including academic, financial aid, financial literacy, transfer, career, and personal development advising. This function requires the Student Success Specialist to develop and stay apprised of all relevant policies, procedures, and knowledge across these advising fields. Moreover, this function requires the Student Success Specialist to develop and stay apprised of best practices, strategies, and skillsets required to effectively communicate with and motivate SSS participants.
Coordinates academic support activities such as tutoring, accelerated remediation programs, multimedia learning tools, and academic ?boot camps?.
Develops and implement value-added student activities. This includes academic enrichment and cultural activities such as international education experiences.
Collects, interprets, and utilizes data to: assess student needs, assess student learning, monitor student performance, provide intentional and intrusive advising, and evaluate programming.
Participates in the outreach and intake process for prospective TRIO SSS participants. Accordingly, develops referral pathways with internal and external partners. Conducts TRIO SSS orientations, interviews, and needs assessments of prospective TRIO SSS participants. Participates in the scoring and selection of prospective TRIO SSS participants.
Supervises TRIO SSS Academic tutors.
Performs other duties and special projects toward student persistence, completion, and transfer, as assigned by the Director of TRIO Student Support Services.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Any equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Education: (required/minimum)
Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, social work, or a related field.
Experience: (required/minimum)
Three years in post-secondary holistic academic advising and program coordination or equivalent skills set and knowledge, with a preference for experience working with students from low-income, first generation, and disability backgrounds at a community college.
One year of professional experience working with TRIO Programs.
One-year experience working with student information database.
