Job description: The Johns Hopkins University C.A.R.E program is seeking a Tutorial Assistant who can provide additional academic assistance to high school students. Tutors are expected to connect with students and staff throughout the time period and provide supplemental material that will increase academic success in the classroom. Outside of the classroom, tutors are also expected to develop innovative curriculum and resources available to students. This position will continually reward you with growth as an educator, subject matter expert, and curriculum designer.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist students individually or in small groups and help them improve their math skills, science, social studies, and English.
- Develop tutoring resources.
- Monitor student progress.
- Identify areas needing improvement.
- Help with homework and preparing students for tests.
- Discuss the trouble area the student is having, either with a specific lesson or understanding a particular concept.
- Attend a monthly grant team meeting.
- Ability to visit tutoring sites by public/personal transportation.
- Proficient in basic computer programs, such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Fluent in Spanish.
- Expert in different subject disciplines.
- Strong communication skills.
- High School Diploma/GED and currently enrolled at a college/university pursing a degree in related subjects.
- Three Years of related experience.
- Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula.
- Experience working with students of various ages.
