The PACK Center at Colorado State University Pueblo is dedicated to the University's Vision and to providing accurate, responsive, and respectful service to students that fosters increased matriculation, retention, and student persistence to graduation.
The main function of the PACK Center is to ensure that students receive a positive and holistic experience during their academic career with regard to advising, policies, coursework, career exploration, and extracurricular activities. The department seeks to provide students with a smooth transition into higher education via personal and regular contact so that they do well academically and socially and stay enrolled at CSU Pueblo.
Description of Job
This position coordinates retention, outreach, and support activities with the purpose of increasing the matriculation, retention, persistence, and graduation rates of CSU Pueblo students. The Academic Success Coach contributes to the coordination, development, and monitoring of progress of CSU Pueblo students. The position serves as a bridge between the enrollment and academic departments and is an integral resource for student development and success.
Primary Duties
Case Management
- Coordinates a comprehensive student advising process and manages a caseload of new, continuing, and transfer students all years they are attending the university.
- Meets individually and in groups with students to develop structured Student Success Plans to maximize the retention and persistence of students in their program.
- Utilizes enrollment management systems to track academic progress, provides academic interventions, and makes referrals when necessary. This includes regular usage of Slate, Banner, DARS, Starfish, BlackBoard, etc.
- Reviews and interprets academic skills and assessments to determine appropriate course placement. (SAT, ACT, Accuplacer, etc..)
- Conducts individualized follow-up sessions to assist students with identifying their strengths, interests, and abilities, and explains how these relate to their major in order to move forward in the major selection and degree selection process.
- Provides students with one-on-one support for navigating the registration process including selecting and registering for courses and ensuring course alignment with their degree.
- Utilizes the Universities Early Alert System (Starfish) in a timely manner to remain informed regarding students' academic progress and facilitates intervention based on issues and concerns reported by their instructors.
- Facilitates student connections with other departments on campus including Admissions, the Career Center, Peer Mentors, Financial Aid, Counseling Center, tutoring, and all other student-serving departments.
- Assists with staffing Enrollment Management events including, Enrollment Extravaganzas, Discover Days, High School Visits, New Student and Transfer Orientation, and other enrollment initiatives.
- Maintains student files, records, and data in accordance with federal, state, system, and college operating policies and protocols, and stays current on applicable laws, policies, and procedures (e.g. FERPA, Title V, and the Code of Federal Regulations).
- Coordinates on-going relationships with faculty, Department Chairs, Deans, and staff in regard to advising activities, policies, procedures, and updates within their respective department/divisions.
- Coordinates and leads advising workshops each semester (online and in-person) to enhance students understanding of the registration process, auditing their degree, important dates, and all other skills related to student development.

- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Experience in a position or activity where it was necessary to present information both individually and in group settings
- Experience in a position or activity that required excellent communication skills, organizational skills, multitasking skills, ability to relate and mentor students, and attention to detail
- Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution
- Experience working with high school or college students
- Experience advising at an institution of higher education
- Experience with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act
- Experience working in a team environment and with a diverse population of students
