The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) is one of the top 10 suppliers of ECE talent at the BS level in the US, and also ranks in the top 10 ECE Departments in total annual research expenditures (ASEE). The department is located in state-of-the-art facilities on NC State's Centennial Campus.
The Department in collaboration with the FREEDM Systems Center has developed MS-EPSE as a flagship degree program in power engineering which aims to prepare engineers for a career in the electric power industry.

Essential Job Duties
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at North Carolina State University seeks outstanding candidates for a professional track (non tenure- track) teaching faculty position beginning in April 2023. Highly qualified candidates will be considered to hold rank at the level of teaching professor, associate teaching professor, or assistant teaching professor.
The primary responsibility will include contributing substantially to course development and delivery for the master's degree program on Electric Power Systems Engineering (MS-EPSE). The other responsibility will involve leading the efforts on promoting and marketing the EPSE program to increase the visibility of the program to prospective students.
Teaching responsibilities include:
- Develop and deliver main power system engineering courses such as power system operation and control, as well as special topics such as protection and switchgear, utility communications, and utility economics and policy.
- Manage the capstone projects, which will involve interacting with industry and faculty to solicit capstone projects, assess their suitability, and coordinate and manage capstone projects.
- Lead the efforts towards promoting the EPSE program to industry to attract working professionals to our programs.
- Lead the efforts on student recruiting and program marketing.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Rank of Assistant Teaching Professor - Demonstrated ability and the potential for directing activities in the mutually agreed upon realms of responsibility; ability and willingness to participate in department, college, and university affairs; a doctoral degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering or closely-related discipline.
- Rank of Associate Teaching Professor - Recognized ability and potential for distinction, and demonstrated ability to direct activities, in the mutually agreed upon realms of responsibility; demonstrated ability and willingness to participate in department, college, and university affairs; a doctoral degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering or closely-related discipline.
- Rank of Teaching Professor - Distinguished achievement, and demonstrated ability to direct activities, in the mutually agreed upon realms of responsibility; established reputation in the individual's profession; demonstrated ability and willingness to participate in department, college, and university affairs; a doctoral degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering or closely-related discipline.
- Strong communication and technical skills.
- Demonstrated experience in two or more of the following: Power System Analysis, Power Distribution System Engineering, Power System Protection, Renewable Electrical Energy Systems, Utility SCADA and communication systems.
- Doctoral degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering preferred, or MS degree with substantial technical experience. Ability to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses. Previous teaching and student mentoring experience, at the college or advanced high school level.
