Business Analyst I/Business Analyst II

Miami University seeks an experienced Business Analyst who enjoys working at the intersection of people, process, and technology. The role involves leading stakeholder engagement, managing requirements, and guiding initiatives to support enterprise-wide services that enable student success and university operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and facilitate engagement with stakeholders to clarify objectives, success measures, and constraints
  • Independently elicit, analyze, and manage requirements across moderately complex initiatives
  • Translate ambiguous or competing needs into clear recommendations and documented outcomes
  • Act as a primary point of connection between business partners and technical delivery teams
  • Contribute to project planning, prioritization, and delivery decisions with sound analytical judgment
  • Use process and performance data to inform recommendations
  • Guide testing strategies and validate that delivered solutions meet intended business outcomes
  • Proactively identify process improvement opportunities and recommend practical, incremental improvements

Skills

  • Bachelor's degree earned by date of hire
  • Demonstrated experience performing business analysis–related activities such as requirements elicitation, process analysis, stakeholder coordination, or solution validation
  • 1+ year of professional technical experience for Level I position
  • Substantial experience performing business analysis–related activities, including direct engagement with stakeholders, independent requirements analysis, and contribution to solution delivery for Level II position
  • 4+ years of professional technical experience for Level II position
  • Experience may come from roles such as business analyst, developer, project lead, product owner, or similar positions
  • A relevant master's degree may be considered as one of several ways to demonstrate equivalent preparation
  • Fundamental knowledge of business analysis practices including requirements elicitation, documentation, and validation for Level I position
  • Strong knowledge of business analysis practices including requirements elicitation, analysis, documentation, and validation for Level II position
  • Ability to gather information from stakeholders through interviews, observation, and structured discussion
  • Ability to document requirements, workflows, or user needs clearly and accurately
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with technical and non‑technical audiences
  • Ability to analyze problems, ask clarifying questions, and break down ambiguous issues into manageable components
  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders and technical teams to support solution development
  • Ability to learn new systems, tools, and business domains quickly for Level I position
  • Ability to independently facilitate stakeholder discussions to clarify goals, needs, and constraints for Level II position
  • Ability to analyze business processes and identify opportunities for improvement or efficiency for Level II position
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly to diverse stakeholders for Level II position
  • Ability to translate ambiguous or competing needs into clear requirements and recommendations for Level II position
  • Ability to manage requirements across a project lifecycle including prioritization and change tracking for Level II position
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills applied to operational and technology initiatives for Level II position
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication with both technical and non-technical audiences for Level I position
  • Ability to build trust, facilitate discussion, and work collaboratively across roles and perspectives for Level I position
  • Analytical thinking and curiosity, with comfort exploring unfamiliar business domains for Level I position
  • Familiarity with concepts such as process mapping, stakeholder analysis, and requirements documentation for Level I position
  • Willingness to learn new tools, methods, and technologies as needed for Level I position
  • Experience with common BA and project tools (e.g., ticketing systems, workflow tools, Agile backlogs) for Level I position
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including facilitation of complex discussions for Level II position
  • Ability to navigate competing priorities and guide stakeholders toward shared understanding for Level II position
  • Experience applying business analysis techniques such as process modeling, gap analysis, and impact assessment for Level II position
  • Familiarity with Agile or iterative delivery environments for Level II position
  • Working knowledge of change management concepts and organizational impact for Level II position
  • Experience with common BA and project tools (e.g., ticketing systems, workflow tools, Agile backlogs) for Level II position
