Job description: Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc. is currently looking to hire a Corporate Senior FSQA Scientist to lead the internal beverage manufacturing facilities in Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA). The incumbent will lead, maintain and continuously improve the FSQA programs across four Ocean Spray manufacturing locations.
Position Location: This is a remote position. (Wisconsin area preferred) (35% Travel required)
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work across Corporate and plant Quality teams, product development, packaging engineering, process engineering, procurement, and other cross-functional teams to support commissioning protocols including risk assessments (e.g., raw materials, micro, processes, facility and others) and compliance to OSC Quality Operating Standards as well as Federal (FSMA), State and local regulations.
- Provide technical expertise to Ocean Spray Beverage Manufacturing facilities on resolution of issues related to product food safety and quality, develop, and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Provide support on routine quality activities such as customer complaint investigation, incident investigation, holds management and disposition, consumer complaint investigation, support plant with any FSQA related technical problems and resolution.
- Provide FSQA input on technical change processes and recommends approach to ensure reliable data is generated to drive decision and continuous improvement.
- Oversee performance metrics for internal manufacturing network. Create and generate performance reports to drive continuous improvement. If applicable, conduct visits and/or audits as identified by the annual risk-based audit program or identifies areas of microbial risk and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Responsible for FSQA technical documents including the development and/or technical review of related Food Safety and Quality policies, procedures, standards, instructions, forms, and reports/records to ensure consistency across all beverage manufacturing locations.
- Ensures that the Corporate Quality site is maintained with the required documentation for OSC approved internal manufacturing network. Assists in preparing quality guidance including statistical tools and training material for internal and external cross-functional teams.
- Provide support as the FSQA Subject Matter Expert for Design to Value and Cost Savings Projects
- Ensure compliance with third party auditing schemes. Support execution of a strong CAPA (Corrective Action / Preventive Action) program that drives site improvement in Food Safety and Quality Compliance. If applicable, identify areas of physical, chemical and microbiological risk and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Perform and support Food Safety risk assessments for new products and processes, as well as implement changes to existing products/processes. Review manufacturing facilities Food Safety/HACCP plans.
- Participate in and lead continuous improvement projects in the FSQA Team
- Lead the Beverage Network team meetings to ensure members are kept up to date and continuous improvement projects are shared and standardized.
- Participation in industry forums that include suppliers, processors, customers, and consumers.
- Bachelors degree required in food sciences, microbiology, or chemistry.
- 5 years of experience in Food Safety and Quality Assurance in Food/Beverage manufacturing industry required.
- Excellent collaborative and problem-solving skills. A strong, broad technical background with expertise in the areas of, Quality Systems, Process Control and Auditing Protocols
- Able to utilize and critically evaluate data from a variety of sources to identify root cause and lead teams towards resolution.
- Highly organized, self-starter able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, adapt well to change and able to prioritize multiple projects.
- Practical knowledge of FSMA, FDA, CFIA regulations.
- HACCP Certified. SQF Practitioner and PCQI certification are a must.
- Juice HACCP knowledge preferred.
- Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) preferred.
- Advanced PC skills: Windows, Excel, PowerPoint.
