Collins Aerospace is looking for a Specification Writer to work in a REMOTE capacity in or near Cedar Rapids, Iowa or Melbourne, Florida. While this is a REMOTE role, 3-6 months of ONSITE Onboarding training is required at the Cedar Rapids, IA or Melbourne, FL site. Relocation is not being offered for this position.
The Specification Writer prepares technical specifications and Engineering Change Orders for components, materials, and processes for purchased items using technical data provided by the Component Engineer, adheres to Configuration Management procedures with regards to documentation release and revision and adheres to guidelines as established through the Component Engineering Specification Writer functional team to ensure consistent documentation practice.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Prepare technical procurement documentation for components and materials.
- Perform analysis and jurisdiction classification for export control of technical data.
- Prepare Engineering Change Orders for components and materials.
- Assign Engineering Change Order numbers, and new part numbers for components and materials in accordance with procedures.
- Ensure conformance of Engineering Change Orders to Collins Aerospace Configuration Control procedures.
- Ensure the use of consistent documentation format through the use of templates.
- Complete work through use of a set of computer-based tools including a workflow tracking system, a Product Data Management System, and an e-mail system.
- Create and maintain department level documentation for instructions, guidelines and training curriculum.
- Identify process improvement opportunities.
- 2+ years word processing, drawing creation, and editing experience
- Maintain individual work within a team environment

- Typically requires a University Degree and less than 2 years prior relevant experience or in absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience
- U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.
- Experience creating and marking up documents using Adobe FrameMaker®, Adobe Acrobat®
- Drafting or graphics editing experience using Canvas® or Adobe Illustrator®
- A University Degree or equivalent experience and less than 2 years prior relevant experience.
