What We Look For In a SSAT- Upper Level Tutor
- Advanced Test Mastery: Deep knowledge of SSAT Upper Level sections including Quantitative covering algebra, geometry, and data analysis, Verbal covering synonyms and analogies, Reading Comprehension, and the Writing Sample for students in grades eight through eleven. Ability to explain scaled scoring, percentile rankings, and the role of SSAT scores in competitive boarding and day school admissions processes.
- Strategic Test-Taking & Problem-Solving: Skilled at teaching advanced vocabulary strategies, algebraic problem-solving, and critical reading techniques for Upper Level SSAT. Guides students through complex word analogies, multi-step geometry problems, interpreting literary and informational passages, and crafting persuasive writing samples. Emphasizes understanding the quarter-point deduction for wrong answers and making strategic guessing decisions to optimize final scores.
- Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with SSAT Upper Level content and common challenges such as sophisticated vocabulary requirements, advanced math concepts, and the writing sample expectations. Adapts instruction using official SSAT practice materials, vocabulary building programs, and progressive difficulty drills to support eighth through eleventh grade students preparing for admission to competitive independent secondary schools and boarding schools.
- Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
- Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
