100% Remote Full-time Open now

About MOUDERN, PC MOUDERN, PC is a modern, remote-first practice with clear expectations, streamlined systems, and a strong emphasis on high-quality writing, professionalism, and results. Our work includes (1) plaintiff-side litigation (including consumer and other statutory claims), and (2) general commercial litigation (hourly matters). Why This Role

  • Real ownership: manage active matters, drive strategy, and move cases forward.
  • Writing-forward practice: you will draft substantive motions, oppositions, and discovery papers.
  • Remote-first team with modern workflows, clear standards, and direct access to the principal attorney for strategy and escalation.
  • Upside tied to results: quarterly bonus tied to cleared settlement funds and origination credit for matters you bring in.

Compensation and Upside

  • Total Compensation Potential (Base + Bonus): $140,000 - $350,000+ (depending on experience, performance, and case results).
  • Base Salary (pay scale): $140,000 - $240,000, depending on experience and demonstrated ability to independently litigate, draft, and negotiate.
  • Quarterly Bonus Opportunity: performance bonus tied to cleared settlement funds (paid on a regular cadence; amounts vary based on performance and results).
  • Origination: origination credit starting at 15% for matters you originate (per firm policy and collection terms).

The Role You will regularly (i) communicate with opposing counsel (calls and written negotiation), (ii) draft substantive motions and oppositions, and (iii) manage cases from filing through resolution, including discovery disputes and motion practice as needed. Key Responsibilities 1) Settlement Leadership and Case Ownership (Plaintiff-Side)

  • Lead settlement negotiations with opposing counsel (calls, emails, written demands/offers, counteroffers).
  • Develop negotiation strategy and settlement posture, escalating to the principal attorney where appropriate.
  • Draft persuasive settlement communications and position statements tailored to each case.
  • Maintain clear, organized documentation of negotiation history and case status for internal reporting and decision-making.
  • Coordinate with support staff on case progression tasks (filings, service, calendaring, case tracking).

2) Litigation and Motion Practice (Significant Legal Drafting Required) This role requires substantial legal drafting and active litigation work, including (depending on the matter):

  • Draft and file oppositions to demurrers (and other law-and-motion briefing as needed).
  • Draft and handle discovery meet-and-confer efforts (letters, calls, dispute narrowing, and escalation strategy).
  • Draft and file motions to compel, oppositions, replies, motions for protective orders, and related discovery motion practice (including supporting declarations and exhibits as required).
  • Draft other briefing and litigation papers as needed (e.g., procedural motions, oppositions/replies, case management statements where applicable).
  • Prepare for and attend hearings (remote or in-person as required by the court/matter).

3) Docket Management and Execution (High-Ownership, High-Volume)

  • Independently manage a portfolio of plaintiff-side matters from filing through resolution, including maintaining deadlines and next steps.
  • Maintain a clean pipeline and follow-up cadence to prevent cases from stalling.
  • Coordinate and delegate effectively with law clerks and support staff to ensure tasks move efficiently and accurately.
  • Provide concise, reliable status updates and forecasting to firm leadership.

4) General Commercial Litigation (Hourly Matters, As Needed) When staffed on hourly commercial litigation, you will handle active litigation tasks (including motion practice, discovery disputes, and briefing) requiring the same strong writing and litigation skills described above. Hours, Timekeeping, and How Performance Is Measured No minimum annual billable-hour requirement for the plaintiff-side docket. Timekeeping is required for internal management and for any hourly matters. If you are staffed on hourly commercial litigation matters, you will be expected to record and bill time commensurate with your staffing allocation for those matters. Performance is evaluated on:

  • Quality and effectiveness of written work product (motions, oppositions, discovery papers, briefing).
  • Case progression and pipeline management.
  • Negotiation effectiveness and professionalism.
  • Reliability, judgment, and ability to run cases with increasing independence.
  • Cleared settlement funds on matters you manage (bonus-related).

Required Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Active California Bar license and in good standing.
  • Meaningful civil litigation experience with demonstrated responsibility for drafting (not just review), including law-and-motion briefing and/or discovery motion practice.
  • Strong legal writing and analysis skills; able to produce polished work product with minimal supervision after ramp-up.
  • Experience handling discovery disputes and meet-and-confer practice (letters/calls; escalation to motions when needed).
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and deadline management.
  • Professional and confident communication style with opposing counsel.
  • Comfortable working fully remote (self-directed, responsive, dependable).

Preferred Qualifications (Strong Pluses)

  • Demonstrated experience leading (not just assisting) settlement negotiations.
  • Experience managing a high-volume litigation docket.
  • Experience in plaintiff-side litigation (e.g., employment, lemon law, consumer litigation, PI litigation) or insurance defense litigation with meaningful drafting responsibility.
  • Substantial experience with California state court motion practice (including demurrers) and discovery motion practice.
  • Experience with consumer protection, unfair competition, or other statutory plaintiff-side claims.

Benefits

  • Health insurance.
  • Dental insurance.
  • Vision insurance.
  • Life insurance.
  • 401(k) retirement plan (no employer match at this time).
  • Unlimited PTO (subject to reasonable notice and maintaining coverage for deadlines and hearings).

  • Fully remote, with clear expectations and regular communication.
  • Direct access to the principal attorney for strategy and escalation.
  • High ownership and responsibility: you will be trusted to run matters and produce high-quality written work.
