Senior DevOps, Kafka Engineer

As a Senior DevOps, Kafka Engineer, you will bring your technical skills to a hospitality company with an award-winning culture. On the Enterprise DevOps team reporting to Director Enterprise DevOps, you will support MarTech, Payments, and Property Engagement projects. HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT Your role is important and below are some of the fundamental job duties that make your work unique.

Responsibilities

  • Design, scale, and maintain resilient Kafka environments using AWS MSK
  • Maintain lifecycle automation for CI/CD toolsets, with a strong focus on GitLab CI pipelines — including YAML syntax, reusable templates, and pipeline optimization
  • Monitor and optimize Kafka performance, availability, and security
  • Support containerized workloads running in AWS/EKS and act as a DevOps engineer at heart — a generalist with broad knowledge across infrastructure, CI/CD, observability, and application enablement
  • Partner with software engineers to define and maintain well-architected Kafka topics and schemas
  • Work with cloud engineers to build a scalable CI/CD pipeline integrated with MSK
  • Support cross-functional teams in troubleshooting and improving Kafka-based workflows
  • Drive the MSK/Kafka roadmap, including upgrades, observability, and architectural improvements
  • Lead initiatives to improve Kafka topic governance, schema registry usage, and message reliability
  • Promote best practices for Kafka usage across engineering teams

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of professional work experience within Technology or a related field
  • Two (2) years of experience overseeing DevOps and CI/CD pipelines in Gitlab, including monitoring, optimization, and automation
  • Two (2) years of experience working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud environments
  • Two (2) years of recent experience deploying, managing, and troubleshooting containerized applications using Kubernetes
  • One (1) year of experience administering Kafka
  • Experience with Bamboo or similar build and deployment tools
  • This is a hybrid role and requires being near one of our three US office locations (McLean, Dallas, Memphis)

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree, or Associate's Degree plus 6+ years of Technology related experience, or High School Degree/GED plus 12+ years of Technology related experience
  • Five (5) + years of professional experience within Technology or a related field
  • Three (3) years of experience in DevSecOps
  • Experience with Amazon Managed Streaming for Kafka (MSK)
  • Experience supporting 7x24, critically important systems
