Responsible for the efficient operation and utilization of employees, equipment, and material in the production of metal ends. What you’ll be doing: Complies with established job safety practices, policies and procedures as specified in plant and corporate directives for the safe performance of the work assignment. Supports and follows guidelines of the food safety system. Responsible for maintaining a safe and secure work environment. This includes correcting unsafe acts/conditions, participating in safety meetings, performing safety inspections, and investigating accidents, as required. Follows company policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), practices and Sonoco’s Global Code of Conduct. Supervises and coordinates the employees and activities of the department/production function to ensure safety, quality, productivity, and housekeeping standards are met or exceeded. Coordinates and conducts the on-the-job training and development of subordinates’ skills to ensure a high level of production. Evaluates products to ensure compliance with established quality standards. Leads problem solving sessions to solve production, quality and safety issues. Assists in evaluating all materials or equipment changes. Facilitates communications and dissemination of information between crew operations. Establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department and plant location. Ensures that production and other pertinent reports are prepared accurately to determine shift and plant efficiencies. (ex. Line summaries, rejects/regrades, downtime analysis). Ensures plant security. Initiates cost reduction programs and active scrap reduction programs for their area of responsibility. Advises Production Manager on personnel activities, plant morale, and manpower requirements relative to their shift. Assists Production Manager with preparation of the production department’s operating budget. Recommends items for the capital budget. Writes, manages, and closes capital projects. Leads shift meetings focused on safety, production and general plant information. Maintains a current record of reject material and works through shift utilization to regrade and keep reject levels to a minimum. This role supports third shift (3rd shift) operations, typically from 10:30 PM–6:30 AM. This position is located in our Henderson Kentucky facility. We’d love to hear from you if: Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, or a related field preferred 3-5 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience with LEAN manufacturing (5s, Kaizen, Standard Work, etc.) and Six Sigma methodologies preferred. Strong leadership and team management abilities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work environments. Broad experience usually acquired through working in a manufacturing plant. Must be able to handle sensitive related and proprietary information in a confidential manner. Ability to operate and functionally use the computer. Ability to meet deadlines, concentrate, and pay attention to detail. Ability to effectively lead and train other employees. Ability to wear appropriate safety glasses, hearing protection, clothing, and footwear in appropriate areas and follow safety practices. Required to work assigned schedule. This may include 8 or 12-hour shifts and weekends as needed. Incumbent must be able to work overtime on a regular basis and/or be on call as directed by management Compensation: The annual base salary range for this role is from $90,400 to $101,700, plus a quarterly target bonus of 12.5% of base salary.
