Student Program Associate, Families Programs

The George Washington University is dedicated to cultivating an inclusive community for its students. The Student Program Associate for Families Programs will support the Family Engagement team by developing and facilitating programming aimed at enhancing connection and belonging for families of new students.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, coordinate, and execute family engagement programming in collaboration with the Family Engagement team and campus partners to foster connection, enhance belonging, and support onboarding for GW families. Signature programming includes New Families Orientation, Alumni & Families Weekend, Family Advisory Council meetings, virtual webinars, and additional engagement programs
  • Lead unit-wide communications, including development and management of the annual communications plan; oversight of the GW Family Connections portal; production of a monthly e-newsletter to all GW families; creation of marketing materials and presentations; and planning and facilitation of a summer webinar series
  • Oversee undergraduate student employees by providing coaching and delegation of work
  • Support the Family Engagement team in the development, launch, and administration of a new Family Ambassador Volunteer Program. Responsibilities include designing and marketing the program; recruiting, training, and coordinating volunteers; establishing and maintaining a volunteer database; and managing ongoing communications to ensure sustained engagement and program effectiveness
  • Assist with outreach to external sponsors and vendors to support family engagement programming efforts
  • Partner with Orientation & Class Year Programs and other campus partners to develop intentional, outcomes-based programming that meets the needs of a diverse student and family population
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for GW families and supporters, providing timely support, guidance, and issue resolution via online communication platforms, email, and phone
  • Participate in Division-wide and University-wide initiatives, committees, and projects aligned with the mission and strategic priorities of the Division for Student Affairs
  • Collaborate with Alumni Relations, University Advancement, Admissions, and other partners to advance student success and strengthen family engagement efforts

Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • BA degree or higher preferred
  • Experience in student-facing higher education roles, including admissions, orientation, student services, or related functional areas
  • Exceptional communication skills, with demonstrated strength in writing, public speaking, interpersonal communication, and customer service/engagement
  • Proven experience in event and program management, including planning, execution, and assessment
  • Strong understanding of first-year and transfer student populations and their families, with the ability to design targeted programs, services, and communications that address their unique needs
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and adapt effectively to changing or competing demands
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with flexibility and good decision making
  • Commitment to a people-centered and equity-driven philosophy that prioritizes care, development, and inclusive practices; willingness to challenge traditional approaches to create more student-centered experiences and unique family engagement opportunities
  • Experience with CampusESP or comparable CRM and engagement platforms to manage communications and stakeholder outreach
