BUSINESS TAXES SPECIALIST I, BOARD OF EQUALIZATION

The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) is seeking a Business Taxes Specialist I to support tax administration efforts. The role involves providing technical support, leading projects, and serving as a subject matter expert on tax law and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical support to team members, supervisors, and management
  • Develops, updates, and delivers section policies, procedures, and training curriculum
  • Independently leads and coordinates special and complex projects
  • Represents the section/branch at multi-departmental and external stakeholder meetings
  • Handles sensitive inquiries from internal sections, external agencies, and the public
  • Serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on program requirements, tax law, and compliance activities
  • Analyzes data and creates/maintains statistical reports
  • Acts as Point of Contact (POC) for system enhancements and troubleshooting
  • Participates in system design sessions, testing efforts, and system change processes

  • Knowledge of computer programs, such as MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook)
  • Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines
  • Ability to be a self-starter
  • Experience and/or ability to interpret laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal organization, interpersonal, and customer service skills
