Sr. Research Writer - Neurological Research Institute - Texas Children's Hospital - Houston, TX - work from home job Company: Texas Children's Hospital Job description: We are seeking a Senior Writer will provide writing, editing and marketing, coordination and organizational skills to Texas Children's departments to reach external audiences to promote relevant research. The Senior Writer/Research Communicator will be integral to ensure compelling research stories from the hospital are sourced and featured on relevant research-related institutional webpages, blogs, social media platforms and local, regional and national media. The person will collaborate closely with research leaders at Texas Children's to identify, strategize, generate and lead research promotions using lay-friendly stories. The person will also work closely with Philanthropy and marketing/public relations teams at Texas Children's, Baylor and other collaborating institutions to share and leverage content in multiple online and print platforms.   • Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any booster dose(s) of the COVID-19 vaccine recommended by the Centers for Disease Control when eligible, is required for all employees at Texas Children's, unless approved for a medical or religious exemption
  • Master's Degree OR Ph.D.

OR JD - In Journalism, Communications, English, Biology, Chemistry, Law or other science-related field required

  • 5 years required iExperience in health care, technical or and biomedical research communications

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, prioritize and lead the overall advancement strategies for research-related opportunities for fundraising using news releases, news articles, blogs and social media posts about research discoveries, prizes and grants, as well as institutional and external faculty honors.
  • Lead the writing, editing and publication timelines of research-related communications projects.
  • Identify, gain leadership buy-in and implement newer and more effective ways to promote research endeavors at Texas Children's to external audiences
  • Establish and lead regular "check-in" meetings with senior leaders at Texas Children's, as well as key internal stakeholders - such as physicians, scientists, research administration and Philanthropy - to ensure new information is sourced/available in a timely manner and is communicated to suitable and specific audiences.
  • Steward relationships with research leadership (at the senior and executive level) and keep them informed of how research is being disseminated and promoted across all channels.
  • Act as an inter-institutional research communications liaison for external entities including academic institutions, foundations, associations, journals, professional societies, etc.
  • Keep other teams, including PR, Marketing, Creative and Philanthropy, informed and loop them in, as needed, for specific research-related communications projects across the hospital.
  • Provide guidance and editing support to junior level staff via the Specific Aims Workshops and similar faculty advancement programs.
  • Maintain an organized and structured process and metrics by which activities are documented, maintained, and reported in accordance with project needs. Knowledge and Skills:
  • Deep understanding of basic and clinical research and the workings of scientific enterprises in an academic environment.
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of effective philanthropy communications, writing and editing standards through their previous experience and body of work.
  • Previous experience in research/scientific communications, demonstrate fluency and proficiency through previously published work, and possess the ability to express complex scientific and medical information in a highly readable manner that is accessible to scientists and non-scientists alike.
