Medical Billing Specialist- Spine
Job Title: Medical Biller - Spine Specialty Job Description: We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Biller to join our spine specialty practice. The Medical Biller will play a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely billing processes for our patients receiving spine-related treatments, such as surgical procedures, pain management, and diagnostic services. This position requires a strong understanding of medical billing codes, insurance regulations, and spine-specific procedures to optimize reimbursement and maintain compliance. Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and submit accurate medical claims to insurance companies, government payers (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid), and other third-party payers for spine-related procedures using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
- Verify patient insurance coverage and obtain necessary authorizations for spine surgeries, imaging (e.g., MRI, CT), and other treatments.
- Review patient charts and medical records to ensure proper coding of diagnoses and procedures specific to spine care, such as spinal fusions, laminectomies, or epidural injections.
- Follow up on unpaid claims, manage denials, and initiate appeals for rejected claims to maximize revenue.
- Communicate with patients regarding outstanding balances, explain bills, and establish payment plans as needed.
- Post insurance payments, contractual adjustments, and patient payments, ensuring accurate account reconciliation.
- Conduct audits and coding reviews to ensure documentation accuracy for spine-specific services.
- Collaborate with physicians, coders, and administrative staff to resolve billing discrepancies and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA.
- Maintain proficiency in billing software (e.g., Epic, Meditech) and electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
- Stay updated on changes in medical billing regulations, insurance policies, and spine-specific coding guidelines. Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in health information technology, healthcare administration, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing, preferably in a spine, orthopedic, or surgical specialty practice.
- Strong knowledge of medical billing codes (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS) and insurance regulations, with familiarity in spine-related procedures and terminology.
- Proficiency in medical billing software and EMR systems (e.g., Epic, Meditech, or similar).
- Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification is a plus.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities to address complex billing issues.
- Strong communication skills to interact with patients, insurance representatives, and healthcare providers professionally.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality. Work Environment and Benefits:
