Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Government Mortgage Underwriter to join our team of mortgage professionals. As a Government Mortgage Underwriter, you will be responsible for underwriting loans and applying necessary conditions to ensure that borrowers meet program specifications. You will draw upon your thorough knowledge of residential mortgage underwriting guidelines to make independent approval, suspense, or declination decisions. Key Responsibilities

* Underwrite new loan file submissions, ensuring that all necessary conditions are met and that the loan meets program specifications

• Review and clear own conditions, maintaining complete and accurate loan files
• Make independent approval, suspense, or declination decisions based on thorough knowledge of residential mortgage underwriting guidelines
• Ensure that loans being underwritten meet the policies and procedures for salability
• Communicate effectively with customers and internal partners, both in written and verbal form
• Maintain a detailed and organized approach to underwriting, with a focus on accuracy and efficiency

Essential Qualifications

* Minimum 3 years of underwriting experience, with a strong background in government mortgage underwriting

• Recent experience using Encompass is a plus
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers and internal partners, both in written and verbal form
• Detailed oriented, flexible, and adaptable, with a strong ability to learn quickly and thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Knowledge of mortgage products and underwriting procedures, including DU/LP and manual underwriting
• DE/LAPP/SAR/VA required
• Remote work experience in CA or AZ is a plus

Preferred Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as finance or business

• Advanced certifications, such as Certified Mortgage Underwriter (CMU) or Certified Residential Underwriter (CRU)
• Experience working with government-backed loan programs, such as FHA or VA
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail
